Spooky... Your advice, please!

Featured Replies

Right, after test driving an vRS last week I've decided I want to get one, I decided I want to spend up to

Other than the normal checks , make sure the cambelt was done at the 60k service , or haggle them down a few hundred quid to get it changed

And possibly any proof of coilpack changes. Other than that, the brakes and pads are easily checked for wear due to the design of the wheels and make sure the tyres are good and the same make - all bargaining tools if theyre not.

The cambelt should have be done a couple of years ago as it's way over the recommend 4 yrs point.

So cambelt is 60k or 4 years? Is that cam belt, water pump, pulleys and tensioners all together?

Because the interior shows up dirt like you wouldn't believe, a clean interior ought to be the sign of a well looked after car in general

Ooh, good one! I'm guessing the creamy/white carpet doesn't tkae to kindly to not being cleaned regulalry!

The worst area usually being the footwell! Takes a bit of looking after.

Make sure the air con is working properly, blowing nice cold air and give ALL the electrics a once over.

I've just been reading up on Parkers about pricing etc. and they state that the car has a 6 speed box. Is this true!? I thought it was 5, possibly 6 on the MKII.

def a 5 speed on MK1 and a 6 on MK2

Just as I suspected, muppets!

Out of interest, what fuel do people use? Is 95 RON okay or is it strictly Super!? I know the car will probably produce stronger horses and torques on Super, but is it critical that it's run on it?

I run tesco 99 ron as much as poss. I do notice a v v v slight difference between the two if I have to have a tank of 95.

To be honest you can't really tell a big difference unless the car is re-mapped.

Well I'm guessing the car is standard, I might be tempted to go for a remap.... not sure. So running them on 95 isn't a big no no, it's just nicer to use super.

I'm wishing I'd just phoned the guy up now rather than emailing him, I might have been able to arrange to see it this weekend, now I have to wait!

I've just done a check on insurance and I was quite pleased at how cheap it was, just over

remap is a must mate youll be over the moon with the car, inside the car is a pain to keep clean.

A remap really does transform the car. I was gobsmacked when it was done!

Pm Wardy with your interest in a group buy remap at Jabbasport.

Re Fuel

Get Shell V Power into it i used to run my mk1 octy vrs which has been remapped by star performance on Tesco petrol when switched to v power it was a different car i know its a bit dearer but who cares:thumbup:

Ha ha, I did see the group buy being arranged, but I think I might be getting ahead of myself it I were to sign up for it.... I haven't even seen the car yet!

my experience of 95RON fuel is very different to the one earlier.. mine (standard) runs NOTICEABLY worse on 95RON than 97/98, to the extent that when I bought it I was underwhelmed by the performance, but the price was so good I took the chance there was nothing actually wrong. Decent fuel made the world of difference and well worth the few pence extra IMO

I enquired at a local VAG specialist today about some prices.

Not happy!

Guy emailed me this morning saying as he couldn't find a decent car for decent money at the weekend he's decided not to sell his car (especially as it's in such good condition).

****! :finger:

bummer

Yeah, tell me about it!

When I emailed the guy on Friday, I was saying I was very interestd but I'd let him know on Monday, as I needed to check I'd have the money if the car was good! I didn't want to waste his time by looking and then not having the money. Looks like he was the one wasting peoples time!

I just don't see how you can spend two days looking into buying a new car and then say that there'e absolutely nothing available, complete rubbish! I usualy end up spending weeks hunting for the right car when I've decided exactly what I want, months even!
