Coil/Spring warning light

Featured Replies

Please bear with me on this one as I am new to the site and am no petrol head. A couple of days ago the coil/spring warning light came on in my Fabia 1.9tdi. I took this to a friend who has dignostic equipment but when he ran a check no fault was highlighted. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Do you mean the glow plug light (looks like a spring on its side)? This should come on briefly when you tunr on the ignition, but as the weather's warm, it should go off after a few seconds tops. If it's staying on, then it may just be a fault with the glow plugs - but AFAIK, the warning light also comes on for a range of other faults. I'm surprised the diagnostics didn't pick it up, but it may depend on what you friend was using. Some diagnostic systems only read engine and ABS faults, so it may be that the fault lies elsewhere...

Sorry I can't provide more help than that, but I'm sure someone else who knows more than me will be along soon...

Yes thats the one - I have now noticed however that I have a rear brake light out - could this be anything to do with it.

Cheers

Yes, the glow plug light has several functions, brake light failure being one of them.

Could it also be anything to do with the timing belt. This was changed about 3 weeks ago in the 60k service.

Cheers

Glow plug light is often either a dud brake light bulb or a malfunctioning brake light switch. The switches have been modified at least twice in the past couple of years - check with a dealer to see which one you have.

I bought one not long ago for my octy, same one for the Fabia I think.
