Door nipple missing - another warranty claim?

Featured Replies

One thing I've noticed: last weekend, I took the door card and inside plate apart to fit insulation on the inside of the outer door skin (need to remove window pane, etc) and found the inside of the door to be soaking wet

Looking at the bottom corner at the end of the door where it meets front of the rear door there should be one of those rubber nipple thingies. Well, it's missing on the drivers side and there's just the hole. It also looks as if the bottom bit of the slit where the rubber thingy should fit is bent towards the inside of the door (see attached pic).

Should that be another warranty? There's no paint missing as far as I can tell - I'll have a good look at it tomorrow in daylight. However, if there is no paint missing, then that would mean it's always been like that from factory? If it's a manufacturing defect, I would have hoped it would have been spotted during QC... I hope they don't need to change the door!

Looks like it would be just a matter of fitting a new rubber 'nipple' in place of the missing one.

With the wet door. This is normal. They are designed to allow water into the door, but not into the car. There should be a couple of drain holes in the very bottom of the door that allows the water to run out safely. That isn't a problem mate. ;)

I'll ask about getting a replacement nipple (ooerr!)

The drain holes certainly work - have a LOT of water that comes out when I open the door.

Having just forked out a lot of money for some very sweet speakers, I'm just a little worried they'd get soaked and die in the process :(

Sorry to go of topic what 'sweet' speakers did you go for?

It's just that I know some people have problems with clearance.

Cheers

Don't worry all car speakers are water-proof. Just wrap a bit of insulating tape around your wiring connections and all will be fine.

And do tell, what have you gone for...

OK OK Calm down ;)

Stopped at Jacksons on the way in this morning to ask. Good news is that "bent" bit of metal is normal. The hole left with the bent bottom bit is meant to act as a thread for those rubber thingies which you "screw" in.

Even better, the chap said he'd order some in for me which should get there tomorrow (assuming they're not on back-order too!). When I asked him the cost, he just said "I wouldn't worry about it. It'll get lost somewhere"

Have to say, their servicing department, when on top, are very very good :)

Edited to add: the pukka speakers (not fitted yet) are Rainbow Vanadiums 6.5" in the Extreme Kickbass version

clicky

They retail at about

Sorry, but I would tend to disagree. They may be made of water resistant materials but they do not take too kindly to being showered with water. It's best to shelter them from direct contact with water. The owner's manual for my Infinity 6500cs states do not mount the speakers where they will get wet.

Well, considering the cost of the rainbows, I certainly don't want to toast them!

Although you could argue, you'd only get rainbow speakers when it's raining and the sun's shining at the same time ;)

...Will have to figure out where I'm going to put the crossovers though - guess it will be in the door card 'cos I have to use the OEM wiring having fitted a parrot handsfree kit...

Xavier,

Can you not use new wiring from the parrot kit to the speakers rather than the wet string OEM stuff? Seems a shame to spoil those smart speakers for a "hapth of tar". Remember to keep the X-overs dry as well. I'll have the same fun fitting my new Infinitys this weekend - weather permitting.

At this rate the mods will be moving this thread to ICE :D
