I was looking more towards something of the 'last of the old' P4 vintage, or perhaps a newer Celeron. P4-2.0Ghz perhaps, or a Celeron 1.3, something like that.

Seems I'll be keeping an eye on eBay, probably for local ones that I can go have a look at.

I hope you mean Centrino as Celeron are , to put it mildly, Cr*p.

I wouldnt touch a second hand laptop unless it was given to me.

1. you have no warranty and unless you can prove you bought it from new your insurance wont pay out on it.

2. if something does go wrong they are that expensive to fix that its not worth it and would be cheaper to buy a new one.

Are you going to advise people who come on here asking about Skodas to buy a brand new M5 at six times the cost?

A second hand laptop in decent condition is more than up to the job for a lot of people and as for insurance companies refusing to pay out if you can't prove you bought it as new.....

That's just nonsense and would apply to any second hand item equally if it were true

Whats with all the negative waves Moriarty:eek:

As for insurance companies i had a secondhand laptop on which the screen went. It was gonna cost

i do have accident cover which includes drop smash spilt liquids etc but they still wouldnt pay out.

The screen is a pretty big Foooooking component as without it the lappy is kinda useless:P

Its like your car not having an engine you can see its their you can even sit in it but you wont be able to go anywhere and if you have fully comp insurance then they should pay out as long as you pay the excess.
