Cheap laptops?

Sorry I don't get the analogy. If the screen failed with out you physcially damaging it, then I can understand the insurance not paying out. Same if your engine mounts failed and the engine droppped out.... the insurance wouldn't pay out..... simple.

if my engine fell out then id sue the manufacturer as that would be some serious catastrophic failure:eek:

of course the insurance would pay out thats why you have fully comp insurance. makes no odds to them as all they will do is take your excess and put up your premium (or someone elses if you have protected no claims:rofl:  )

the only things insurance companies do not cover is an act of god (i.e the weather) unless you have it specifically stated on your policy. Also why do you think insurance companies ask for Comp equipment to be named on insurance policies (well mine does and its not cos im a Squaddy cos my house insurance and kit insurance is done by my bank)

anyhow this is getting a bit:offtopic: so im gonna leave it their

i was just offering some advice based on my knowledge and experience. i didnt want the spanish inquisition:rofl:

Hi good old Soviet here, (PLEASE NOTE NOT ADVERTISING)

I always deal with Micro Direct (Manchester) for that sort of thing as I always find that they have the best price.

I get most of my PC stuff from there, and bought my little lad a laptop last Christmas from them which was a Fujitsu/Seimens Amilio, after many hours of web search the price with a 1 year warrantee was the best that I could find.

Most have 1 year on new stuff, unless you take up the extended offers which never tend to be good value for the extra money being asked. Probably better to get separate cover from a private warantee source.

Best of luck, to your friend

Fully comp covers accident damage and not mechanical breakdown

No , they cover you for theft and damage and most definitely not for something just going faulty.

The only time I've seen computer equipment specifically mention on domestic insurance policies is as part of a "valuable items" clause where *anything* over a specific value needs to be listed.

I certainly never had to give details of my pc

i would hardly say engine mounts failing was mechanical breakdown and if the insurance didnt pay id sue the manufacturer as im sure that would be covered under an anti corrosion warranty or such like

my insurance states that all Computer equipment must be listed on the policy so maybe its just my policy

anyway have you nowt better to do than to pick faults or try and make people look stupid???

FFS! Hello - On Topic????!!!! Is your post about where reasonably priced second user/nearly new laptop can be found? No?

Then go create your own thread about bloody warranties, claiming against insurance policies and whatever you want to talk about...

Thank-you! An on-topic post - yes, have used MD for many years and have always found them good.

Just again, it's the issue of that 'gulf' as it were between the budget new kit, and perhaps fairly recent ex-corporate laptops.

Cheers,

Steve
