engine managmengt light - coil pack? - HELP

engine man light - coil pack?

Hi guys. took my car for MOT and at the same time asked for engine mang light to be looked at. Came back missfire on cylinder 2 so i got a new coil pack to fit.

However i left the car stood whilst i was away, came back and started the car and hey presto! no engine managment light (didn't know they could go out by themselves?)

Anyway just got in the car today and the light came back on. Are dodgey coils a common problem and does it cause a engine man light? The car drives fine and has all its power?

Help

Coil Packs are very common. If you have one then fit it.

I have one but what about the engine man light would it cause it to come on due to a miss fire and will putting the new one in solve this, or do i need a company to take the engine man light off

help

Fitting a new coil pack will sort out the engine managment light (mine began as an intermittent fault then just failed completely - change the coil pack asap).

Whether it still remains in the diagnostics I don't know. The clever man Stu will know that one...

The light engine man. light turs itself out when things are sorted, but keeps the error codes in the computer.

It also went out by it self a day after I changed my lambda.

thanks for the adfvise guys, can anyone else shine more light on this?

If the Engine light wont go out disconect the battery for about 15-20 mins & that will do the trick.

I wouldnt be sure your problem is coil pack, with the exception of Terrys post I have never heard of one thats intermittent. In my experience once they start to go they go, also they break down under load, the car will be fine on tickover & low throttle application but will fail with the engine under load

Annoyingly, this is also typical of the behaviour of a spark plug that's breaking down.

Good point, I believe plugs are changed every 40,000 but I have had some go at less than that so worth considering

I've never changed plugs at much other than 12_000 miles, unless it was less to achieve annual changes. Of course I've also never used Iridium or Platinum core plugs.

Mine does the same. I find if I leather it about one day, the next day it's gone off. I think it may be an oxygen sensor or something getting coked up when I drive like an old lady. Gonna chuck some injector cleaner in the tank see if that fixes it!

/\ That's entirely plausible, although I'm surprised it happens that quick unless you've got other issues like, say, high but "within tolerance" oil consumption.

That's a thought, I'll check the oil. It's also been ok in the past.

HI,

our engine light is on and has been into local skoda garage 4 times and they re set it and then it goes back on after about 65 miles. They have no idea what it is and they have changed a few things (which if course has cost money) but the fault is still there. We did have the coils changed a few years back for free as they did a recall. So do you think it could be the coils even though skoda cant find the problem. Any help is geatly received as we are looking to sell but cant until the fault is sorted. Just rememebed the faults said "incorect fuel mix" then each time we took it back said a different error. A freind has said it could be a sensor. Does this sound a possibility and how do we check as local skoda dont seem to be able to help?

Thanks

Could be the 02/Lambda sensor.

Would be handy if you had the codes for us or could get someone with VAG-COM to get them for you. Where are you based.
