I'd like some honest opinions on this, as I think it's wrong, but anyway, here goes.

I live in a small close. To leave the close, one drives to the end of the road which is the "vertical" bar approaching a T junction. The "horizontal" road (the road I'd turn onto) is often used for driver tuition as it is also a dead end. Lots of people go down there to practice parallel parking, 3 point turns, etc.

See attachment as an example: I would be living in Tuxford Mews and they use Windrush way as their practice road - this is not where I live, just using it as an illustration

Now, what winds me up is that all learners when told to pull over, do so so that once they stop, they are parked where the red cross is. This makes pulling out of Tuxford Mews a bit of a hazzard as Windrush way is now a lot narrower and no longer wide enough for two cars (+ the parked one). So when pulling out, there's a chance you'll have a car driving along on the "wrong side" of the road.

Of course, everyone deals with these hazards on a daily basis, I have no issue with that What I do find a little strange is that it doesn't seem to bother ADIs. I would think that an ADI would suggest not stopping opposite a T junction.

Unfortunately, Windrush way is not the most peaceful of roads as it's fairly straight and no speed bumps or cameras (which is an exception to where I live!) so you get the combination of lunatics going at scary speeds, learner drivers who always seem to park right by the T junction. It'll only be a matter of time before something really nasty happens :(

My thoughts from having lived on a fairly long road, also a cul de sac, is that there's no shortage of learner drivers arriving. Just gotta live with it. Learner drivers when brought up such roads are probably not competent as to their stopping, parking etc. Most instructors will allow residents to go on their way, eventually.

Not sure what point you're making really. If you live somewhere like that, it's the way it is. Drives a person barmy but we all had to learn and all that.

My point Mo is why stop specifically in front of the T junction when the road is completely empty and they could park 50m further down the road and it wouldn't cause any concern at all. Given the option, I thought it would be best to do so to minimise potential hazards. It's not as if they're getting out of the car to walk up their garden path

edit: do you park your supermarket trolley at right angles to the isles blocking the passage and think that's normal. More to the point, would you not expect an approvded supermarket trolley driving instructor (ASTDI) to suggest you leave it elsewhere where it is less obstructive

How often does that happen? I'm inclined to think that the best place for learner drivers to stall is at a junction. If you are saying that ADI allow their learners to "park" at that point, then TBH I'd get out of my car and ask them why.

It can tend to be the same driving schools who frequent an area. Might be worth having a word with them. Clearly you are a competent driver dealing with an inconvenience - just sort it with a phone call or two really methinks or allow that peeps have to learn.

I don't mind learners actually, because me following a learner too close is like someone tailgating me. Today, a council minibus carrying people was less than two car lengths back (I doubt it was one actually) though little point as we were arriving at a bottleneck. Oh well.

Happens all the time, Mo. It's one of the most popular training roads in my area. 8 years ago when I took driving lessons, I went up and down that road (never thinking I would be living off it 5 years later!).

It doesn't bother me that much. I'm used to it now, and am aware of it so always careful when pulling out. It's more the "why" question. If there was a use, like parking right by the side of a T junction to have good line of sight so you can film highly illegal driving, then fair enough, but there isn't even that :P

Next time, I'll ask. I may even bump into my driving instructor as I see him from time to time too

I guess from that diagram they are about to practice reversing round a corner into vemey mews, they have to wait until you have left before reversing. I used to have to reverse from main roads into side roads all the time whilst learning to drive.

nah, wouldnt stop that far up if reversing around a corner. you stop litrally half a metre from the corner. when we get told to stop, the people say "pull up on your left a safe place" BUT sometimes they get you to stop on the left anywhere. in my test they told me to pull up on my left anywhere and it didnt matter if it was in front of someones drive!

there is a housing estate near me that i have to work on quite a lot and you can drive through it at any point during a day and see 4 or more learner cars withing about 1 mile all doing 3 point turns/reversing round corners etc and it drives me crazy and i don't even live there!

i understand that people need to learn somewhere but why do they all have to learn at the same place at the same time?!?!

does seem a bit bad that that the instructors are letting them park so as they inconvenience (at best) to other road users :confused: doubt my instructor would have let my park in that type of area, even if I'd tried

wood farm? spent many an evening turning around/reversing round corners there we quite often had to find another corner to reverse around as there were so many other learners about

If I'm getting the location that the learners are stopping in correctly (sort of across the main road from the Give Way marking), then I'd say they're in the wrong regardless.

For the people asking about a "RH reverse round corner", they should stop short of the corner, then move through the junction and across the road once instructed about the manoevre to be undertaken.
