Mixed Feelings: Audi TT Vs vRS

Featured Replies

The 4yr lease on my beautiful vRS ran out this week :thumbdwn: and they came and took it away from me. However, the company had a 225 Audi TT available which is my new vehicle.

The Audi pulls stunningly from 4K revs plus however I do not believe it would beat my standard vRS to 62mph(100kph). My old Octy would easily manage 68-70mph in 2nd gear but the Audi red lines at 56mph meaning I need to change to 3rd. I therefore do not believe it is anything like 1 - 1.5 sec faster to 100kph.

any views from anyone else?

Other moans are obviously that the Audi is 11K more than my old vRS, has a small boot, will not fit anyone but thumbelina in the back, and swear to god, is slower when I really need it. I am not convinced of a 151mph top speed either.

Admittedly I have only had it for a week an am only just getting used to the smoother gear change points (6 gears not 5), and I am still pining for my beloved vRS.

Dodgy MAF prehaps? A TT with 4wd and 45bhp more will be quicker.

Surely it'll lose some power from the 4wd system though?

during "normal" operation, ie no front wheel slippage, the Haldex 4wd system behaves as FWD, only transferring torque to the rear when front slippage is detected. So there should be minimal power loss in the system as a result of the "4wd" in normal operation, except for the rear end drive train rotating mass.

The reason it redlines lower is because it has a lower ratio box. More power through a shorter gear makes it faster overall. I test drove a TT 180 when they first came out and this didn't feel fast then. Although saying that I really don't think that the vRS is mostrously fast from a standing start. But that is a problem with all modern cars too heavy. If you don't believe me, and if you can still find one that hasn't died take a Renault 5 GT Turbo for a spin. Very light lots of lag then you will realise what acceleration should feel like.
