Is this an early sign of my clutch going ?

Featured Replies

When changing gear (at low stuck in traffic speeds), I get a slight knock, and a bit of a notchy feel through the gear stick. Also, get the same when putting it into gear from neutral. Nothing to major yet, but it wasn't like this some months back. Assuming this is a sign of the clutch going, thinking ahead, what suggestions regarding upgrades are there? Flywheel, lighter clutch, blah blah.

Cheers mates.

BTW - It's a 2003 Octy Mk1 that's been Jabba'd

IIRC correctly, if your in 5th and hit the gas to the floor. The revs will rise, but the car wont gain speed in relation to the revs.

I maybe wrong but im sure i read that on here for testing your clutch.

Sounds more like the DMF to be honest....

Is still under warranty?

Wots a DMF :help:

No warranty - 2003

Dual Mass Flywheel. Expensive to replace, most people go for the solid G60 flywheel and clutch I think if it goes. Better value and lasts longer IIRC. And I think it might even be lighter.

A SMF will spin up faster but will be a bit lumpy at idle :)

Just searched the site regarding the DMF thingy. I have also been getting a bit of a wobble on at lower speeds, and lower RPM. I blamed this on the fact that I have had new tyres on the front, and perhaps they didn't balance them properly. But, could this be linked to the DMF? The feeling is not as much through the steering wheel, but feels more like the front of the car is wobbling slightly from side to side. If it's the DMF, how much of a dent will it make in my wallet?

Cheers for the replies guys.

A vibration which gets better with increasing road speed is not a tyre balance issue.

One which gets better with increasing engine speed might be a DMF issue or might not.
