I'll agree with that, NA cars can lack the torque to get up hills.

My mates G60 running 200+ bhp can't stay with mine on hills, you gotta love torque! :D

Isn't the G60 supercharged? Surely they're a fairly torquey lump?

We just raced in a straight line on his private racetrack coming onto it at about 30mph.

If I was in front... we found he couldnt catch up and the gap gradually widened 70mph+ as I have the torque advantage and that extra gear.

When he went in front it was pretty much even however the vRS would just edge in front again at about 75-80 due to the torque advantage.

I'm sure it could have been a better result for the vRS, it is due a service and I have only owned it 3 days so I havn't quite worked out the best way to drive it.

My other car is a golf mk2 1.8 16v which is currently in a 164bhp state of tune. With me driving the golf and my brother driving my fabia i can easily pull away from him on any road, hill, twistys. The golf like the puma is a much lighter car than the fabia, so should in theory with its harder suspension eat the fabia in the corners. But the fabia does have alot of grunt and can pull itself round the corners. Its swings and roundabouts. Ones got power the others got agility.

why are we even comparing a small ford "sports" car to a diesel "warm" hatch anyway?

Take it to 4k rpm before changing up is the quickest way to drive it. Don't listen to all these people who tell you to drive it like a diesel ;)

yes and yes ;) i thought about putting the g60 charger on mine but the only way to do it would be to use the inlet off a raylee (rare as hens teeth) as the the inlet is on the opposite side of the engine on my 16v to the 8v g60.

Is the thig running ok cos if mine puney 164bhp can beat a mapped fabia a 200+ force fed beast should eat it for breakfast. (after its sucked all the grannys off the pavement)

ultra joel 88, An accident just waiting to happen.

At least you won't look queer driving a vrs.

Wasn't it the Steve McQueen advert that was used on the Puma years ago?

The one from Bullett....

Yep! YouTube - Ford Puma Steve McQueen commercial

One of favourite ever adverts - mainly because I like the Puma styling and a big McQueen fan

well i had a 1.7 puma 00 plate 35000 miles for about 18 months at first i loved it ,thought it was quick etc but after a while i began to get fed up with the driving position door pillar was always causing a blind spot then the rear view mirror would get in your line of sight at roundabouts .

so i took a vrs for a test drive and it blew me away i would 0 - 60 was amazing so from personal experience vrs would leave a puma standing although its a better looking car

The cabin feels cramped to me. The A pillar slopes a lot towards you leaving little head room.

It is a very 'raw' car though. The engine noise is always with you and you feel very close to the road, giving the impression of speed, go-kart like.

The main thing that does impress me about the handling is how neutral it is. You can see the benefit of having a light little petrol on the front axle, unlike the vRS (without RARB).
