Skoda and the Tour de France

Featured Replies

Watched the opening time trial this afternoon and apart from the wonderful spectacle of one of the worlds greatest sporting events going past some of Londons famous landmarks I notice that Skoda are still heavilly involved with the sponsorship of this event. I wonder if any of the numerous support Octavia's and Superb's had a Briskoda sticker in the window? ;) , perhaps next year we could persuade at least one of 'em to put one somewhere!!

I'm going to be within 1 mile of the route tomorrow... shame it's from the solid confinement of the office :(

Surely they'll let you out for an hour or two to watch it go by Q  , it really is a specatcle worth seeing especially as it does'nt come to the UK that often.

Watched it some years ago when it came through Basingstoke if only for minute. The best bit was not having a single pot hole on any of the roads things have changed since then.

Skoda also sell bikes, but they are not cheap :)

Take a 'bike carrier' to Prague Len, you can buy them in the shop attached to the museum, but you're right, they aint cheap :o

I got a couple of decent photos of the Octavia Scouts being used as bike carriers.

I'll put them up tomorrow.

There were also plenty of people wearing free Skoda hats but I couldn't find where they were being given out :(

Yep, the end of my road is already closed, as they are going right passed at about 12-12.30, just time to walk home to watch the start of the Grand Prix.

Same here, I can hear them testing the PA system already. They'll be coming past here about one-ish they say. Should be quite good to watch! :)

Just an observation here and slightly off topic but, haven't the roads they are using around Burham and surrounding area all got lovley new tarmack all of a sudden???????

Skoda have been the official support vehicles for a total of 3 yrs ( including this), and have 2 years left.

They were expecting to pull out, due to the drugs problems within the sport last year.( Winner was tested +ve for a banned substance).

I work for one of the companies that sponsor a team alongside Skoda . ( Its team CSC) The head office have baseball caps with Team CSC & Skoda on them for sale, anyone want a cap ;):D

No need for a bike carrier Steve, plenty of room in a combi :)

I see there's a few non standard colours in there too , especially a bright blue Octavia II Combi in one of the teams colours , I wonder if Skoda sprayed them up specially or would it have been the cycle team itsself?

how much ?

Some Skodas, but I'm sure at least one team was running Pug 407 estates as support cars. I only mention it cos it's the first time I've seen different makes in the race org and support cars in Le Tour.

My mistake , it doesn't seem to be a scout , just a normal 4x4

Were absolutely tons of Skodas mixed up in the various support vehicles - lots of Superbs & Octys as official tour vehicles, Octys for various other duties and teams including RSs plus new Fabias (orangy colour :o ), Scouts and at least one Roomster as part of the Skoda procession (plus a big float with scantily clad ladies) ... plus some Kent police Octy 1 RSs (including a yellow one :D ) . My mates were starting to take the mick that I had turned up to look at the Skodas rather than watch the cycling  :P I too missed out on those white Skoda hats that seemed to have been handed out all over Canterbury.

We didn't get any Skoda hats in Rochester :thumbdwn:

Hi all, I am new to this forum, and I am thinking of getting an Octavia Scout. You know as soon as you think "don't see many of them around" and as soon as you are thinking of getting one you see loads of them?

Well, our road in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, was shut for the Tour De France, I went to have a quick gander, and lo and behold Skoda must have been sponsoring it as I saw at least 10 Scouts, and most of the rest of the range too.

I need a 4x4, not a hardcore one, but for not getting stuck on the beach and in fields etc (I kayak, camp and tow a caravan but not all at the same time), and I nearly got a Mitsubishi Outlander, but decided they are a bit 'bling' & liked the Scout a lot.

How are any owners doing with it so far? Light off-road use OK? Good reaction from mates/family etc?

Ah, first ever post moved to here, so to continue the T De France topic then, there were orange Octavias as well!

Oh, I got a hat!

Here's a few I took from the Prologue on Sat. A bit of cropping due to people's heads getting in the way  Generally quite rude French people actually, despite polite requests (in English and French) to let me get a better view. They seemed more intent in trying, in vain, to get pictures on their mobile phone cameras. Ho hum....

All the Octys I saw were just normal combis, didn't think I spotted a 4x4. And, as you can see from the 2nd pic, definitely some non-standard colouring going on!

The drive-by at the start was quite good too - nice chance to see the Fab 2 up close. Looked better in the flesh, I'm rather relieved to say.

The ones I saw looked like normal Octys (hatches for organisation, wagons for team support, including "neutral service"), but surely I wasn't the only one watching the race rather than the caravan?

Don't worry Ken, I was there to watch the cycling too .... but there is a rather a long wait with a lot of cars beforehand :D Re: Scout - the link that Steve (lfc) has given shows a few piccies of a Scout (picture 21 probably the clearest)

I was multi-tasking too :P

Outrider... cyclist... backup team. 1-2 minute gap. Repeat as before...

Plenty of time to take it all in

Steve
