You've NOT YET tested it and you have had your a55 off the seat... are your front shocks on their way out??

seriously if your thinking about trying to sell used parts here you may not want to advertise how the car may or may not have been driven - I'd assume it would put off potential buyers

You also need to add in milage covered by the discs & if you have a micrometer you could provide measurments. Otherwise the 2nd hand buyer may as well buy new & he'd then avoid the cost of P+P + peace of mind.

Unfortunately all the other Fabias have FS-III brakes so not an easy swap (and if they were looking to change they may as well go for the 312's). Some of the Octy's have the same as the Fabia so the discs and pads may be saleable....?

As stated not really. Hold onto them and when you move on swap them back and you will get rid of the 312's a lot easier.

as a slight deviation, is it possible to fit 280mm golf/corrado VR6 (for example) brakes to non VRS's without changing the hubs?

Thanks for the other comments. Guess i'll just keep them boxed and in the loft then. May try eBay, as anything goes there...

30k miles done, so doubt there's much life in them. Thought if they fit a less spec'd fabia, it might be a worthwhile cheap upgrade.

What was the cost Gaz both for the parts and fitting as this is something i'm considering when i've got my wedding out of the way.

mine are boxed away in the shed awaiting the day should I return the car back to standard. 28k on them and to be honest they look fairly new.

For the hassle of trying to sell them and the amount you get I really wouldn't bother.

The doubt in my mind would be about resale time, as there's a proven market for the 312mm setup. So you could make some money back then, by just refitting the std setup and selling the 312mm kit on.

You could always try them on eBay though - nothing ventured etc!

On the fitting of 280mm brakes to the lesser Fabia models, I think that may well be possible. You'd need new carriers though. This is all a bit vague I'm afraid, and based round my upgrade of Polo GTi 256mm front brakes, to 280mm from a G60. Worked very well and required the sourcing of the carriers (can be difficult to find for reasonable money) and obviously bigger discs and pads.

I'm possibly wrong but the carrier might be part of the hub. Just had a look in haynes and there's no torque wrench setting for it in haynes for FS2/3 calipers) I didn't check when I did a disc & pad change a few weeks back. The new discs just fitted past the carrier so I didn't worry about it.

You may well be right Gaz. Just thought there might be a slight chance that it had a similar setup to earlier Polos, like my 6N2.

It all came about when I asked how did it pass the emissions test as it had its cat removed then he spilt the beans & luckily my PC microphone recorded it all.

A few years ago there was an MOT station round this way who "specialised" in testing cars that were decatted. The way they did it was to MOT the car and then use a donor car for the emissions test which happened to be an old Nissan Micra. Unfortunately, the year my friend took them up on this service, the Micra actually failed on the emissions test so he was no better off and had to get his car recatted for the day

This practice of dodgy MOT certs is a real concern - the emissions test is crucial especially considering the global warming issue.

If they break the law on that what else are they missing? Are they failing parts which are fine to get more

Im sure you want all MOT test centres to be acting in a legal and ethical way & all garages not ripping you off as rule breaking goes hand in hand with carrying out unnecessary work.

Or just spend your entire time worrying about issues that it's possible to worry about? Today it's MoT test centres and people being apparently environmentally unfriendly. Will tomorrow bring you worrying again about people not buying BMWs?

You can clearly see the issue of dodgy MOT centres if they are willing to do illegal emission tests what else are they willing to bend the rules on?

Note - you clearly are a sensible chap and therefore know that the whole point of a cat is to prevent harmfull chemicals entering the atmosphere - if you remove it (illegal to do so) you are increasing the emissions for your car.

I put the warning there as too many get away with it imagine there is a crash as a "friendly" MOT centre didnt carry out the brake test and that killed someone. Its not the drivers fault its the MOT centre.

The emissions test is slightly different however. Most owners will re-cat their car to get it through the MOT and then decat it again the day after. So, rather than going through the hassle of paying someone to switch over the exhaust twice for an hour's test, they doctor the emissions.

I'm not saying I agree with the practice, but I'd hardly say it's in the same league as not carrying out a brake check, etc.......

I was speaking to a guy at the MOT test centre a few weeks back, he had a Fiat Coupe Turbo remapped. We were chatting for ages, but he failed it because of not having a CAT. Anyway, we raced all the way home, and I beat him by miles.
