Sorry for all the questions! Do you have spacers on either the fron or the back? if so how big are they? etc

Cheers

  • Author

Lol! Don't worry m8, if ya don't ask, you will never know!

I am not running any spacers at all m8, the fronts sit flush with the arches perfectly fine and the putting spacers on the rear wouldn't help the handling. :thumbdwn:

A quick update for you all guys also, I ordered a Jabba rear anti-roll bar yesterday as even with the adjustable dampers on the rear being set very stiff in relation to the fronts, the car still doesn't turn in to and hold a decent line through corners as much as I want it to. Will have to see how much of a difference it makes??? I've also ordered a Pipercross Panel Filter as the air filter needs changing during the next service.

I have some more plans for the wheels to, I feel a bit of colour changing is in order lol!

I will get some more pics up when I have it all done!

Dave ;)

i went in a car with ARB and the difference is silly! as soon as i have done the coilovers its ARB here i come! I am gonna go for the coilovers without the metal sump guard...hope i dont live to regret this!

Keep us updated on the mods to the car. Really does look good.

Cheers for the help

Sounds good mate, like a good work in progress. Just out of interest what coilovers were u thinking of going for? With regard to the sump issue it is my personal opinion that if you drive carefully over uneven surfaces and through big dips in the road then it will be fine. Like I said I have not had one issue as it stands.

Quick Update also:

My Jabba rear roll bar arrived yesterday night but when I opened the box it turned out that they had forgotten to put all the bushes and general fixings in with it. So I will have to wait even longer to get it on now, while the bits are posted out to me! :(

Oh well, life goes on lol!

Nice looking car, sexy wheels.

Probably with 18s on, this has countered some of the effects of slamming it on coilovers. I never had sump issues with mine being about 70mm lower than normal. Have now raised it up to about 40mm lower than normal, as I've spaced all the wheels out 15mm. (fronts to get over brembos, backs to just match it) My wheels are not that wide (7.5J veedub ones) so spacing 15mm at the back has really made them work well with the rear arches.

lovelly!

hoping to get mine that low, or perhaps lower :)

(methinks a sumpguard might be usefull!)

I was looking at a lot of different coilovers and was put off purchase initially due to the price of them! Now trhere seem to be a set called 'V-maxx' Big in the US and now flooding in to europe. Big Boys Toys in essex supply and fir them, 350 for the coilovers and dropping bolts. They have had really good reviews and the quality of manufacture is supposed to be top notch. Called big boys toys and they believe they are decent. Many Golfs have them.

Have a look! an afordable way to lower your car. Use the search tool and type in V-maxx i have got some bits there in the fabia forum.

Fluffy, who drives a Superb, has the V-Maxx coilovers and in comaprison to my KW Coiovers they are pretty good for the money.......didn't seem much difference in the ride....

Yeh I looked up the V-Maxx option when I was researching suspension, but to be honest was a little unsure due to the low price, thinking that you get what you pay for and there wasn't a lot of reviews on them. So, in the end I decided to go with the Weitecs. If they are as good as 'Baker21' states then I have deffo missed out on a bargain lol!

Make sure you keep us updated if you get them...

UPDATE (30th Nov 2007)

Well I have been pretty quiet on the forum for a while, but thought I would post some new pics of progress thus far... :)

Right strating from the top:

1. I now have my Jabbasport Rear ARB fitted and have had it on my car for a while. Initially the handling difference was very noticeable, but now I have got used to it.

2. I then decided to buy some different wheels for the car. I was looking for the lightest wheels possible to help handling, fuel economy and performance. Eventually, I decided to go for a set of OZ Ultraleggeras in 18's and Silver. When the wheels arrived I lifted one of the bozes off the van and didn't think there was anything in it, had to check they had put the wheels in lol! :rofl2:

3. Next modification was to get a Milltek exhaust with decat. Excellent system in my opinion.

4. After saving up for a bit again, and doing all the necessary servicing etc. I decided I wanted to upgrade the brakes on the car. After researching into options it was decided I was going to get 332mm 2 piece discs (ECS), then design all the custom bits necessary to mount Porsche 996 4 pot calipers to them. I have now been on with the project for a few weeks now, and so far have come across quite a few problems. I have acquired the correct calipers, stripped and powder coated them, reassembled them with new textar pads and fitted the custom braided hoses. I have also had to do some work to the bottom wishbones in order to allow the bigger discs to go on. The only things I am waiting for now are the custom caliper carrier mounting brackets to be finished at a local engineering company. They should have been finished a week ago, but the firm have had problems with acquiring the HT steel for the job.

That's it so far, need to do the front bushes soon too becuase they are on the way out, then it is time to start saving again lol!

Also, I also have my R32 wheels for sale now in the 'items for sale' section. They are now coloured anthracite, so take a look. :)

As usual, comments welcome.

Regards, Dave

I am interested in the Weitec's.....how are you finding them? How much did you pay and where did you source them from?

Thanks for the comment mate..............not bad for a 'barge'.......LOL!!!

Does look good, have you thought about painting the font grill surround like jabba Lukes? I think the black one on a red car looks wicked!

Jabba Sport - Motor Sport

They the 944 brakes that we on ebay?

Thanks for the kind comments guys...

Baker21 - Tis indeed a very nice looking barge lol! With regard to the Weitec's I have not had any major problems with them on the car as such. They are reasonabley soft to be honest. I have got used to them now and I wish they were much stiffer. I just don't like the amount of body roll the car still has, sure it doesn't crash over bumps like some other suspension kits I have had on cars but I got used to that! I don't think the fact that the springs are progressively wound helps matters on that front either, and it would help if they were adjustable in bump too. Oh yeah and the rears don't go low enough. Other than that they're great lol! Seriously though I think it is just me being fussy on this one. Have you got the VMAXX kit on your car then, if so what do you think?

By the way, I paid £620 all in for them from Demon Tweeks, they took about 2 weeks to come from Germany mate.

Shaun L - Hi mate, thanks for the comments. To be honest I have been pondering the grill issue for a while now. I first colour coded it, but then thought that it lacked character at the front end, so bought a new standard silver one. I thought about painting it black when I had black wheels on, but as they are now Silver I think it looks better as is? I can't decide lol!

Also, they arent off ebay mate. They were purchased from a new and used Porsche part specialist and are 996 ones.

Keep the coments coming

Dave

Take the ajuster seats out of the rears and see how it sits then. I have the Evo coilover kit off club polo, I am in Manchester to so if you ever want a ride out to see how they are give me a shout

Interesting that you say they are soft mate as I believe they are made by the same company as KW?

I have the KW Variant 1 Coilovers mate, I was just suggesting that my mate had the VMaxx ones......I am very happy with the KW's.....

I have also removed the adjuster seats off the rear of mine so it's as low as it will go...

Thanks for your input on this guys, well I did not think about remving the adjuster seats from the bottom of the springs! Doh! I will do that tonight me thinks! Genius idea, thanks guys!

Also, cheers for the offer on the ride out Shaun. I may well take you up on that offer at some point, I wouldn't mind meeting up with a few like minded Briskodians to be honest but don't know any that well lol! Would like to arrange something I think. The next meet I am going to will be the North West VAG meet on 4th December in Warrington. I don't think I have seen u there before, but u might want to check it out?

Baker21 - I deffo feel that the coilovers are little soft still mate, maybe if we meet up sometime we will all have to have rides in everyones cars to see the differences lol! :P

Dave

UPDATE - 02nd December 2007

Finally fitted and tested my Porsche brakes! Woohoo.

I am still bedding the pads in but initial reports on them is they are very good. :D

Haven't been able to take any pics of how they look behind the wheels but will do so on the next sunny day.

I have also removed the adjustable platform from my rear suspension in order to get it that bit lower and am impressed with the result! Thanks Shaun L!
