105PD remap?

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any experience of driving and living with a remaped VAG 105PD lump?

I see that Star performance claim to take it straight to 150 bhp not sure on the torque figure.

Is this realistic and how would it be to drive compared to stock?

I'm guess if driven fairly normally then the MPG will stay about the same!

Hi, I have experience of the 105 lump remaped and in answer to your questions;

I would say 150bhp is on the optimistic side, probably more like 140bhp ish in reality. Torque should be up to around the 240lb/ft mark as well.

Makes quite a difference compared to stock, probably more like the 130pd with a little extra, rather than the 2.0 140bhp TDI though.

Driven normally mpg will increase.

All of the above based on a generic map in a 2006 MkV Golf.

We have mapped a seat leon 105tdi with good results the drivability of the car improved considerably and the fuel consumption actually increased (able to drive in 6th gear more) we estimated that the power of that car was around 140bhp once mapped but the torque increase was more substantial at around 230ft/lb.

I'm looking at a new style Passat but can't stretch to the 2l TDI 140 I haven't test driven the 1.9 but I'll be changing from my Octy VRS mk1.

I know they are different beasts and my days of driving quickly are long gone.

The Passat only has the 5 speed box but claims as standard to get around the 60mpg on the motorway, we'll see.

Are there any draw backs to the old tried and tested 1.9 VAG lump?

In the brochure it gives options of wether to have the DPF or not but I would be getting an 06 plate and not sure if the dealer would know if it had this or not.

Well you should see 60ish mpg on the motorway with a remap..... before I had mine it was the low 50's (lack of a 6th gear :( )

One of my main reasons for the map was to increase the mpg as well as the overall drivability of the engine - power is now delivered more smoothly across the rev range :)

The 105pd is a decent all round engine made better by a remap - but a remap dosen't turn it in to a 'performance' car, just one that is more 'driveable' than standard.

All in all, no regrets about getting the 105pd here, or a remap, the standard clutch and set up seem more than capable of copeing with the extra power (no clutch slip at all).

Only down side - that lack of a 6th gear :thumbdwn:

Seems strange why some 1.9s have 5 and some have 6 speed boxes!

Where did you get your map done and are there any negatives to having it done?

How did it effect your insurance payments?

Thanks for the info so far!

Hi Guys

We map the 105PD models to give a +36 -40bhp increase and +76 - 80nm of torque.

The power band is strong throughout, without early tail offs. If you have any questions you think we may be able to help you with, feel free to contact us at [email protected] :)

Thanks for the offer, I think Wolverhampton is a little far from me I'm based just outside Edinburgh so Star Performance would probably be my best bet!

The real negative is the impact it has on the warranty....

No problem, they have a good rep anyway
