Irregular indicators !

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I wonder if any of you can help with my problem.

The timing on the indicators on my mk1 Octavia vRS has gone a bit 'wrong'!

First off, they are all working, no bulbs blown or anything.

They work fine sometimes, other times they go slow for a second or two, other times they go slightly quicker. No other bulbs are blown in the car, as far as I know.

I have no idea if it could be related, but the button on the drivers arm which locks the rear electric windows hasn't worked for about 6 months.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this, it's doing my head in!

Cheers

Rob

Hi, the indicator problem will possibly be that the relay is faulty. The relay is built into the hazard switch & you have to change the complete unit. I've not so long ago had to change mine.

I would say the hazard switch as well. Should be readily available from a dealer for a reasonable cost.

Mine go on and off too :)

Sounds more like teh hazard light switch...

Sounds exactly like mine, just the Hazzard relay needs to be replaced, two seccond job.

ok brilliant thanks for the info, spotting a bit of a pattern there!

Got a service due now anyway so I'll get it sorted then.

Do as search on here, someone went to the trouble of doing a guide of how to clean the contacts rather than replace the relay. this seemed to work for most of the people on the thread. I gave mine a half arsed scrape/clean with my pen knife whilst waiting for someone, hasn't fixed it, but it has improved.

Brilliant, I'll get that.

Are they easy enough to fit? I'm a novice when it comes to things like this!

Thanks

Oh I somehow manged to miss your post DGW.

Is that a problem? How much am I looking at paying from a dealer?

Think the other thread on here said about

I've just dismantled a TT one for the same sort of problem, cleaned the relay contact inside and adjusted the contact bar for a better contact pressure, been fine since. Very common on Audi/VW, so I guess same with Skoda/Seat too.

If the one on ebay is the right one, I guess it's hardly worth messing for the price.

The modified OEM one is around
