Re-crimping existing speaker cable

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just picked up some Alpine speakers to replace the existing ones on my mk1 octy, as near side one had actually died.

I've noticed that they don't have a connecting block like the oem ones did, just 2 'blades' where a crimp would slide onto. 1 big and 1 small.

Now I realise I will have to cut off the terminal block on the existing speaker wire, and re-crimp with spade crimps, but my question is does it matter which of the 2 wires terminates on which connector on the speaker?

God that sounds long winded.

I hope someone understands that!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Yes it does matter. I can't tell you which is which though. Check for +ve and -ve markings on the old and new speakers.

Right got that sorted, the wires with a brown stripe on were the -ve.

After much awkwardness laying on my back in the boot, accompinied by alot of swearing, they are in and wired up.

Had a quick test, still with the original HU in, and while they are not mind blowingly better there is definitely more of a crispness in sound.
