Talex units

Can you get Laser sensors to add to the Talex so it can detect the laser gun? also does anyone who have a talex have you had a road angel that you can compare the two against?

I would say no to the 1st - the Talex works essentially from GPS and an onboard database + the whole point of a Talex is that it is legal as it does not have 'Laser' detection capabilities.

Have no Road Angel......

I had a Road Angel Classic. Talex is much better than that. I have a friend who has the RA Navi unit with camera's on which he seems to really like.

There is an options or accessory port on the Talex but I don't know why they added it.

Problem is, unless you have a "garage door opener", by the time your unit has detected a laser, they'll have clocked your speed. Much cheaper, easier and more reliable just to drive at or below the speed limit ;)

I never did get round to fitting mine on the Octy. Worked very well on the Fabia

Did you ever actually "open garage doors" above the speed limit. ? ;)

Its a bit like an airbag, you know its there but you never want to test it :D

Nah, my drive is quite short so I don't think it would be possible to exceed the NSL.

However, fortunately the device is clever enough to switch itself off after a short period when it detects another Laser in the vicinty. I'm lead to believe that this is to prevent any further interference with such devices. :P ;)

Of course the audiable alarm in the cabin does alert you to such interferences and thus you are able to check your speedometer and consider your surrounding conditions. :D

cheers, any chance of a demo at the next meet? as im thinking about getting one, but not if you know what i mean as i have a RA. Whats the mobile camera location database like? any good?

I've been very impressed with the DB for both Talex and RA. Talex subs are a lot cheaper I think.

No problem to have a look though, give you a chance to see if you like it before you part with your hard earned.

a couple more questions, whats the range of warning for a camera and also for a mobile trap? are you able to manually change the distances yourself to what it will warn at?

I remember a discussion I had with the bloke off briskoda I bought my car from about this sort of thing. Apparently there are some ''parking sensors'' which have some extra capacities ;) . After they have detected a laser they discreetly turn off and become innocent parking sensors again until they are reset. Urban Myth or not?

can you point me in the direction of these laser parking sensors ;)

Stu or anyone with one of these talex's, whats your impression of the distance to a mobile trap warning and the chances of getting court? just 500yds (about quarter of mile) seems a bit shortat 70mph when my RA gives about 3/4 of a mile warning and my tomtom does about the same.

just wondering as its one of the only things that puts me off of what looks like a fine unit.

I think in a 30/40 it's 500 yards ahead, can't really recall what it is on the M/way. It's one of those silly things, it just does it and as soon as I hear the words I know but I kinda don't listen to it if you know what I mean. The feature I like about it is that it tells you the speed limit for the road rather than you having to hunt for a sign to remind you.
