Swapping Superb for Octavia.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I currently have a Superb Elegance 1.9tdi 05, and am thinking of changing for a Octavia, but am unsure which one to go for choices are VRS Diesel, or 2.0TDI Elegance DSG, I do about 40k per annum, which one will I happier in ?..I look forward to your views...thanks.

Depends if you wnat a smoother ride - personally if i was doing 40K i would have a auto - dsg.........

Go with the DSG its 'superb'

I had a 1.9 TDI Superb Comfort, and swapped it for the 2.0TDI Elegance Octy with DSG - I've never regretted it.

I've recently swapped a 54 plate Superb 1.9TDi Elegance for a vRS TDi Estate.

I do about 35K miles per annum, mostly as motorway and A-road miles.

Before I ordered my vRS, I was tempted to go for an L+K with the DSG box.

Skoda provided a demo car for the weekend, so I did get plenty of time to try out the box in a variety of situations.

Quite frankly, I hated it. If you want to accelerate quickly in a straight line, then it's great. Otherwise, I found it incredibly frustrating. I had one particularly scary moment, when I had to do an emergency stop, and the transmission simply didn't disengage the clutch. I found the car being dragged forward against the brakes. Fortunately, it didn't add that much more distance to my stop, but it was really worrying.

In addition, the lack of paddles on the Skoda, really puts you off driving it in manual mode. As an auto, then it was okay, but not as good as a real auto (which defeats the purpose, really).

If I had to do it all again, I'd still go for the vRS, as I wanted the better handling and increased power. I was prepared to compromise on ride quality in order to get a more involving drive.

Having said that, the L+K manual does offer an unbeatable package compared to the competition. As for DSG, I say save your money and buy something else with the cash.

Bagpuss.

There must have been a fault with that motor as normally when you hit the breaks the ECU cuts power to the engine and the DSG in my car has never showed that problem.

If you need maximum response then drive it in Sport, not manual - though that also acts in much the same way as Sport and will not let you over or under rev the engine for any given speed.
