Fabia vRS Economy

Featured Replies

I've been on two long drives this weekend just gone, about 100 miles of motorway, 100 miles of decent A-road and ~20 miles of slow A-road / B-road. Data from trip computer.

214 miles

4:09 hrs:min

52 mph average

54.9 mpg

235 miles

4:28 hrs:min

53 mph average

51.5 mpg

The 2nd leg did have a 15 minute crawl at some roadworks.

All done without exceeding 3000 rpm or using 100% throttle. I'm very impressed with the economy - my old 1.2 16V Clio would have been ~48 on a similar run and inferior in every way.

The car's only done 700 miles so far - what can I expect in regards to loosening up and improvements to performance / efficiency?

Hmmmph, I've never managed more than 47mpg yet, even with the lightest of driving...

Should improve with age... like men are said to by women.

As a comparison I got 61mpg on a trip to Leics recently. 200 miles of motorway at about 75mph and then a fair bit of single carriageway pootling. Very impressed, but then I do still have skinny wheels on it. Once the 17s go on I can expect that figure to go down by 10% at least.

Oh, and as a guide I'm currently running on a tank of BP ultimate, filled up with it on a whim, and I've done almost 350 miles and the tank is apparently half full... whereas I think it's nearer a third full. Still I'm chuffed with the range already compared to city diesel. :D

(edit: forgot to mention the power - ultimate does seem to give a couple of BHP too - it could be just me, but I swear it goes a little bit better)

Chuffed with the range but notthe extra cost eh Jason? How much per litre did that skin you this time? Bet you wish Shell Diesel Extra was availible at no extra (parden the pun) cost!

As for the half tank, yep it does drop off very quickly from a half tank onwards. Currently I have a full tank despite doing 130 miles since fill-up. My economy of Shell diesel extra is greatly imporved, I now get 50mpg through town!

For the 3 tanks fulls I've put in the car, I've seen 50mpg each time and that is pretty impressive considering I have the ultimate journey of 15-miles of country lanes to and from work. Might have to try some of this new fangled Shell Diesel Extra too - and I thought when I gave up the Scooby, I'd be able to build up my clubcard points ;)

Chris

i only do short journeys at the moment only 4 mile to work and 4 miles back at an average speed of only 40 mph, i get between 32-40 mpg depending how heavy i am with my foot, , but compared to my escort gti i get over 150 miles more per tankfull and its the diesel is 4p/litre cheaper as i used to fill up with optimax, so i save at least

The BP ultimate diesel wasn't too bad price wise - it was in the middle of exeter and I didn't realise the BP concerned had started stocking it. :D IIRC I paid 80.9, (maybe 81.9), which is only 6 pence more litre than standard stuff and if it improves my economy by 10% (I'm not sure it will in the long run) then I'm happy to keep using it. The only problem is my local BP (I live 25 miles from Exeter) has ultimate at 83.9 which I'm more reluctant to use. I just need to make excuses to pop into Marsh Barton trading estate all the while. :D

Well considering im getting 200miles extra per tank over what i was getting with a 1.2 clio... im chuffed too :) - oh all this with twice the power and 3 times the torque.

I've managed a best of 48 mpg and a worst of 41 mpg. then again I'm new to turbo diesels and am loving playing with VTRs who try to get past!

My car has now done 11,000 miles and the fuel economy has improved. When I first got the car I was averaging at 48mpg (but I was using a lot of right foot) but doing the 30 mile drive home from work yesterday (at 80mph) it averaged at 58mpg. It has got better since it was serviced. I'm very very impressed with the car. 1000 times better than my Fiesta Zetec S.

  • 3 months later...

i did, 125 miles at 65 for a section just to see how high i could get the mileage, 65 miles to the gallon... nice... average 50 mpg after 9k miles.

Alex not when i get it remapped to 190bhp, 'revo techink', 25 mins and 586 squid...

My average is now 41.8 MPG after 7,500 miles. It is improving. Pretty good really, considering I pretty much always drive fast.

On a 90 mph run (private roads ofcourse  ) I get 49 mpg average every time.

On a 50- 60mph run on A roads in moderate traffic I can regularly get 55-60 mpg average from my VRS. The car has done 6000 miles

The overall average on 2nd memory is 48.5 mpg, this has not been reset since the car was new. I'm really pleased with the economy. You must be driving too fast Paul :D

Well if you want a big car comparison with the pd130 lump, my Superb is 300 miles into a tank of fuel, the computer is saying another 550 miles can be got, at an average of 53mpg, all of which has been travelled at national speed limits. (Oh and the tank is 62 litres and have 9k on the clock)
