Recirculation valve - which way should it be mounted?

Featured Replies

My standard recirculation valve sits on it's side, with the small vacume hose on the right. I noticed on a TT that the valve was sitting upright, the guy working on the TT said that mine was the wrong way around. Is he right? If so, can anyone think of a reason why someone may have turned mine around?

Thanks Kenny. I'll turn it round :)

not really a "right" or "wrong" way. Conventionally boost pressure is usually applied to the bottom of the valve to the centre of the diaphragm/piston, and exits out of the side. The 20VT in fact has it fitted as standard the opposite way round. Doesn't seem to make a whole heap of difference although there will be various schools of thought either way that will provoke discussion :)

In theory it should be easier for the valve to hold pressure with boost applied to the bottom if you work out areas of diaphragm exposed etc. but in practice it seems to work OK either way.
