Instrument Cluster Octavia

Featured Replies

after dismantling the instrument cluster and freshening important soldering points like the two sockets, crystals, electrolytics etc, i thought i had finally solved the problem of the whole meter cluster going dead on me. it worked fro nearly a week but unfortunately today it started acting up again...going dead intermittently. any ideas anyone? also would welcome information on buying the whole cluster or how to look for the needle pointers servos in Maplin or RS Spares.

THANKS GUYS.

Godwin

Hi, thanks Stu. sorry i forgot to mention. it is an Octavia model 1999 but in excellent condition. i am very happy with it and would very much like to clear this fault.

how do you mean this is the wrong forum. a lot of things are new to me. except for sending dedicated posts to particular recipients, this is the only other way i know of sending new posts. what other forums are there?

thanks Stu.

Should be in the right place now.

The forum is divided into sub forums, if you start here you should see what I mean - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/

I'm having dash problems too 1998 Octy 1600, the fuel gauge is erratic and the speedo not registering, I've only had the car for 2 weeks (ebay) and presume the dash to have an intermiitant fault not disclosed by the seller (all OK on the journey home).

Thanks again Stu

What faults are displaying on the dash, which engine is in your Octy?

Hi. seems to be a stock fault with the Octavia Mk1. the problem seems to be in the plugs and sockets. i took it apart and did some resoldering. it held for a week but started on and off again intermittently.... still better than when i started because it was completely dead before. i have not given up and i will take it apart again first chance i get. another member (Soviet) also worked on it and he says it is still working after cleaning the plugs and sockets... so you might try that and see how it goes.

I believe it was fuse 15 that was mentioned

According to the Skoda handbook 12 is dash panel, 15 is right high beam:confused:

http://http://www.briskoda.net/forums/technical-guides/skoda-instrument-panel-possible-fix/76004/

Yes I've found his thread, I currently have had my battery disconnected over night, pulling fuse 12 made no difference:confused:

For a Mk 1 Skoda.

Definitely fuse 15 but why this should work as it does, is anyones guess. Please remember if you are using a Haynes manual, then then you need a mirror image of the fuse box diagram i.e. view it from behind the page for the correct lay out, and hence fuse numbering. I found this confusing at first until it suddenly dawned on me.

Hi Godwin,

When you sent me a message I did not realise that you were new to the briskoda site, and so a very warm welcome to you. What a beautiful place to live i.e. Malta, compared with dreary old Britain, where I am living. You are so fortunate.

I have sent you another personal message, about your instrument problem which may also be of help to you.

Another little tip for you, is to click on search at the top of this screen and type in, the word 'instrument' and it will bring up articles from other members as well as some from me, about these quite common problems, with the instrumentation.

You could also try typing in dials, gauges, needles, etc.

In Britain we have a yearly vehicle Ministry of Transport test MOT for vehicles over 3 years of age since registration, and I am not sure what the situation is in Malta, and whether you have something similar.

Any way in Britain, strangely enough a vehicle will not fail the MOT test if the speedo, etc is not functioning, but it is illegal to drive on the public road without it working. Little bit of a anomaly there, I would say.

Hope you get your temperature gauge, motor problem resolved.

Best of luck Soviet.

Hi Soviet. Yes i'm a new comer and slogans like thread and posts were a little confusing for me at first. Re Malta, a lot depends on the outlook of the individual. there are a lot of British residents here and they mostly love it. The weather is very moderate and mostly sunny even in winter, however the temperature in summer, particularly August and September tends to be a little too warm and maybe also humid. If you are an aqua sport enthusiast, you will love it. a positive outlook helps to close one eye to the dust being created by the building construction going mostly everywhere. you might not find it as clean as the UK although it is not too bad. We have earned the name of being a happy country - mostly i believe this to be due to the lack of law enforcement although we are really trying harder to start fining litter bugs.

Re the MOT, yes, here in Malta we have the VRT which is mandatory every 2 years. we do not have the full whack yet - just emission, lights, stearing, brakes and other general safety features. It will be fully compatible with your MOT in 2 years time.

thank you for the tips you offer and for making me feel welcome on this site. my profile is not as it appears i'm afraid because i did not trust the site on first glance. i am 69 this month - i used to take more than an interest in the car mechanics previously because i had a garage connected to my previous address. ever since i moved to a flat in Sliema, i had to give up my tinkering and cleaning - anyway i'm getting a bit too old for that now and my bad back does not allow me to do certain manouevers either.

Nice talking to you Soviet. If your evr in Malta. look me up.

by the way i shall be coming to North England and Scotland for a vacation come September. i am looking forward to it. the greenery and English scenery has always facinated me. Greenery is one thing we lack here due to very little rainfall. I love England.

Regards,

Godwin
