Auto boxes

Featured Replies

Probably a daft question, but its about automatic gearboxes.

In my Mondeo, I just stick the car in D and off I go, I don't do anything other than accelerate and go. My stepdad has a new shape Civic with the tiptronic gearbox, in that, to change gear, you have to release the accelerater pedal.

Is the Civic box fairly common? I don't like it really and like a straight auto box, but are all tip boxes the same?

Yes, I am looking to change to a diesel auto at some point.

Thanks

All the tiptronics I've driven change much more smoothly up and down the box if you keep power applied. They also have D mode if you just want to point a go. Not driven a Honda one though :o

other half has a C2 VTR with the tiptronic box wierd setup no torque converter tis a manual box with an auto clutch as i found out on a steep hill when i took my feet off everything expecting it to stay and it started to roll back

a lot of tiptronics are clutchless manuals,ie no torque converter,so no loss of gee gee's:rofl:

dam beaten to it

Is it a real Tiptronic (auto box with sequential manual as an over-ride) or a clutchless manual (as it says, except that the conventional clutch is actually still there; it's just that you have no control over it other than by using the throttle or, frequently sequential, gear selector(s))?

No idea in the Civic Ken, not the foggiest. I'm just looking to change to a diesel and want to keep the foot to floor and not worry thing I have in the Mondeo.

Mondeo with a diesel engine? :P

I've got a Superb with tiptronic; the other half has just got a provisional licence and wants to take her test in an automatic and therefore will get a licence to drive automatics only.

Does anyone know if she can drive tiptronics or does it have to be completely automatic? Or do they define automatic as anything without a clutch?

Can you get a Mundaneo with diesel and slushbox? Nothing wrong with the diesel end of the equation IMO, but I've no idea if you can get an auto box in the Ford. I know it's an option on the Citroen C5 and Peugeot 407 (better passenger car than the Mondeo based on direct comparison).

Yup available on all flavours of the TDCI except the 155bhp one.

no comment ;)

I'd say auto only, as the manual test assumes a manual gearbox AND clutch usage.

And imagine if a christian had owned one before... dodgy.

& lots of extra
And I wouldn't fancy buying one out of warranty!!!!

Chris
