Revving Problem - Somebody Help

Featured Replies

Get the gearbox code off the data sticker (3 letters) and get the code off the box that is in the car - it may well have the wrong box in it.

west bromwich - they are based in tipton - will have to book it in for a check

Ok. Let us know. Like others have said, check the data sticker in the boot for the gearbox code and check that against the code stamped on the box itself.

where a bouts is it in the boot?

Ahh see now the full story comes out. You didn't mention you'd had a replacment gearbox fitted.

15mph/1000rpm sounds too low a top even for a petrol box?

I'd guess that standard for an SDi should be more like 25. Regardless of what other people might be telling you, I'd think it's either the clutch slipping (diagnosis already stated), or a very wrong final drive, or you're not getting all the gears.

What speed do you have for 2_000rpm in each gear (well except reverse)?

I have a 1.9 sdi octavia having read this thread yesterday and whilst on my way to work today I checked the rpm on mine at 80 to 85 mph and it pulls at 3200rpm. As a matter of interest I had my clutch replaced about 6 weeks ago at 58000 miles. Not an astronomical mileage but the pedal was high and I was getting a lot of judder. On checking the clutch friction plate it probably had another 10000 miles of wear on it but the pressure plate was probably at fault and it was easier and cost effective to replace th whole clutch unit.

in reality it's unlikely to be the clutch, as it's still in there and still "working". If it was slipping to that extent on the motorway it just would not last long at all, it would overhaet, smell a lot and expire in a matter of minutes.

Only obvious explanation is wrong transmission or gearset fitted, but hard to imagine ANY model that would have gearing that low

Cheers mate; confirms my thought about "about 25mph/1000 in top". Will it do 80 to 85 in 3rd (on a private road obviously ;) )?
