White Smoke

Featured Replies

Took my brother in law home from my house today, less than 2 miles away.

As I pulled up outside his house, my cra cut out, tried to re-start it, as i was blocking the main road a bit, and it wouldn't.

My brother in law pushed me onto his drive, and opened the bonnet. When trying to start the car, a massive cloud of white smoke cam out of my exhaust, and my car wont start.

The cam-belt has been has been checked, and most of the obvious parts by a mechanic mate, and without being able to take the head off the engine, he is baffled.

Does anyone have a clue what it could be???

For those of you who don't know what my car is, its a Skoda Octavia 110TDi, on a 52 plate if that helps.

Cheers,

Chris

The white smoke will be unburnt fuel. I suspect that your anti shudder valve has stuck. Have a look here:

Car won't start? Check your Anti Shudder Valve - TDIClub Forums

I have tried this (Now I have been shown it) and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks for the responce anyway.

Cheers,

Chris

It the wrong engine..vrs.. but I had the same problem white smoke etc when my water pump went.

Not a bad thought actually Timo. One of my mates had an overheating problem with his TDi110, and the splines on the impellor had stripped (but there was no sign of the impellor breaking up like on the petrols).

The other thing to check would be the oil level. If that's dropped unexpectedly and significantly, it's possible that there's an issue with the turbocharger oil seals, and the non-starting means that the lambda sensor is FUBARed (by oil coating).
