urgent advice needed!!

Featured Replies

vw touran 2.0tdi 140bhp 25k miles

suddenly tonite has developed dramatic groaning/creaking when turning the steering wheel

when stationary turning steering from side to side reproduces the creaking

whats the likely diagnosis?

looks like a trip to the dealer tomorrow......

thanks for any advice

Might be one of the batch of faulty steering racks.

Is it still under warranty ? Get them to send out a tow truck :)

result

mechanic sat in car, turned wheel, listened & felt

has diagnosed front strut mount joint seizing

apparently its sone kind of joint with ball bearings in it, water/dirt gets in and causes them to rub and eventually seize giving the creaking/groaning at low speeds.

the dealership has had quite a few tourans with a similar problem

parts have been ordered, being fixed under warranty next week and safe to drive in interim (this is important because otherwise the missus would be using my brand new vRS until the touran was fixed  )

:)

well new front strut mounts fitted bilaterally and it feels like new again :)

Yep I would have gone with top mountings myself.

Good to hear things are back to normal again.
