CEL light on..8 hours into ownership..

Featured Replies

Right, i picked up my used Octy vRS from Peterborough this afternoon, and drove it back to Edinburgh.

All seems fine, although driving wise it's a little jerky, has jabba custom map, cai, hyperboost dv and a tip fitted, along with full blueflame exhaust.

MPG average was up at 40.9, so i'm presuming it's running fine, and goes well when i put the foot down, however 1 mile from home, and the cel came on ?

It still runs fine, but 8 hours into ownership and i'm not feeling the most confident in the car, quite downhearted to be honest, this was suppost to be our new family car...really hoping it's not the start of anything.

Can anyone offer some advice ?

I realise there's loads in the search on CEL's, but there's so many different things.

Thanks

johnny

Best bet is to find someone local with VAG-COM to find the reason the CEL is on and take it from there :D

Chris

If you feel up to a trip to Stirling I can check it with my newly-acquired VAG-COM and cable :):) At least you'll be able to find out the problem.

Hi Alan.

Could be a plan as i'm a bit concerned.

Spoke to the guy i picked it up from and he's never had it before.

Begining to wonder if it's anything to do with all the rain etc..Had to slowly drive through a good few deep sections of roads that were fairly deep, although that was way down south, not up here.

Hi Johnny

PM me and we'll organise something. I am a VAG-COM virgin, but we can have a look!

Sorry to hear that Johnny. Downer :(

As Alan said , best to see what codes it throws up.

You just in?, Cruised past at about 730 to see if the new steed was on yer drive:)

No fault code found.

What do the two codes 17544 & 17535 mean? I only have the shareware version at present.

I also rattled this onto the VAG-COM section of the site earlier. Rather bizarre sitting in a car outside in the street and logging onto this site via my houses wireless network!

The OBD-II codes map to:

P1136 Long Term Fuel Trim Add. Fuel B1 System Too Lean

P1127 Long Term Fuel Trim B1 System Too Rich

Not sure if that's any use though  Suspect it may be related to the 17705?

Thanks Chris :thumbup::thumbup:

Dunno if this will make you feel any better but 1 day after picking mine up air bag warning came on, the following day temp gauge packed in, cleared the fault code on the airbag fitted a new temp sensor all sorted  i felt just the way you are feeling but now after having it checked over and new cam belt and pump fitted all is well just got to get the mods going now.

I guess its just one of those things when purchasing a second hand motor.

I think Johnny is planning a wee trip to Star Performance to get his car on their RR. :D:D

BTW, nice car, Johnny :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Nice to meet you too :):)

Huge thanks to Alan for taking the time to look at the car.

Seeing the amount of people with the same issue is reasurring at least, and i know it's nothing drastic.

As Alan said, i think i'll chuck the car up to Jim at Star and get it the once over.

Also going to invest in the VAG-Com software and lead.

Again Alan, many thanks, and good to meet you.

Nae problem :D:D

Seems to be weak at idle and rich at higher engine speeds. The easiest and cheapest thing to check is for a vacuum leak at idle as in this thread

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia/vrs-error-code-171-bank1-lean-please-help/84522/

Not your exact fault code but worth a check. This will suck air into the inlet due to the vacuum generated at idle, conversley at higher engine speeds this is under positive pressure due to the turbo so the boost air can escape, as the fuelling calculation is based on all this air going into the cylinders it will register rich. This may also account for the 17705 code.

Well, Had another peek, wiggled a few wires, gave the car a wash, and the light has gone off !

Gonna go get myself a Vag-com lead etc and keep an eye on it for the moment.

doesn't 17705 also show up when the turbo inlet pipe in the offside wheel arch pops off. As quoted by goochie recently in the maintenance and performance section :

Also spotted that thread, Thanks Barney.

I do have access to some ramps in Edinburgh, so i'm gonna set about it one weekend and give it a check..

Or, just chuck it into Star for a once over and see what they pick up.

The car was in at Jabba a week ago for a once over, so i'm hoping it's not needing much.

I know, but the Boss has a black Audi RS4, and the Octy was looking rather shabby next to it, so gave it a clean.

Maybe the CEL is actually a dirt level indicator ? :D
