Don't suffer from it myself, so can't say that facing backwards would be any more likley to induce it than facing forwards.

What happens when you are involved in an accident and the pretensioners do what they are supposed to do and tighten the belts?

I read somewhere using harnesses without the correct seats (ie fixed back, or designed for use with harnesses eg race seats) can be extremely dangerous in the event of a crash. Shoulder straps will pull down as the body moves forward and can break the seat backs resulting in............you get the picture.
