Goochie's Mazda RX8 PZ

Featured Replies

My brother bought this new, but shortly afterwards changed jobs to one that came with a Saab estate  - so I took this off his hands with around 5000 miles on the clock.

It is a Mazda RX-8 PZ (231 PS)

Performance is the same as the standard 231 RX8 but the chassis has been tweaked by Prodrive. It also comes with different wheels, spoiler and Prodrive badges here and there.

The sound is apauling compared to the 350Z I had previously but the way it revs is incredible - it just feels like it wants to keep on going. Power delivery is silky smooth and the way it delivery it is best described as "linear".

You do need to use the revs to make good progress though.

Fuel consumption averages 22MPG with a mixture of driving, oil consumption is no where near as bad as people expect. I check it every 2nd fuel stop and very rarely put any in.

Build quality is excellent, no creaks or rattles.

Flooded it a couple of times, due to the nature of the rotary engine it needs to be run for a minute or so before turning off.

Those wheels look mahoosive.

So you bought a car that has been thrashed from mile zero, just like every other PZ...

I'd love one - the one I drove won me over.

Love the Hand Brake, Very nice motor. Yet to drive a rotary engined car.

It does sound a little like a hairdryer at idle but on acceleration this changes to something very like a 6cylinder...to me anyway.

I like it anyway.

Prefer the standard wing mirrors....apparently you see very little with the aero ones.

Oooh...did I spy some radiator grills by the fogs? I've got some on order...3 radiators at the front a

Adrian - look for some of the silver bar things that fit on the grills behind the front wheel - two horizontal bars on each. They look nice.

Very common apparantly.

231 bhp.......Some of us have to do with a piddly 146 (though supercharging is being investigated:D )

Its 231PS so only around 225bhp

I thought it worked out to be around 228bhp......;)

Not much you can do to a rotary engine.....although a full exhaust system does give good gains apparently.

You can mod the engine but this is expensive due to labour and does have mpg and running implications.

There is of course turbo-ing.

Not that I've looked in any of this.:rofl:

 Rotor tips!

Sorry but I prefer the 350Z. I would still love to own an RX-8 but for me the 350Z is just awesome!
