LYK - :iagree:

:) The Favorit is definately a very, very important car in Skoda's long history. Not only was it Skoda's first FWD car, it was the last car to be designed before the VW takeover, yet in Mk 2 form it was the first Skoda to be influenced by VW.

The Favorit may not be the most exciting car in the world, but it is a car I have a lot of respect for. It's VERY spacious for it's size, in Mk1 carb form is pretty sprightly, it's economical, handles well [ableit with a lot of roll], and reliable. The original Favorit's main failings were a very flimsy interior and dodgy fuseboxes..both sorted in later models.

Some might consider the Favorit [especially in estate guise] to be the worlds first mini-MPV....how many cars in the late eighties had rear seats that could be easily unclipped and removed for a truly cavernous load area?

Of course I'm not at all biassed.....well, OK, maybe a little!;)

Yeah, me too. William Woollard on Top Gear... Jeez, I'd forgotton all about him! Is he dead yet? I wonder if Clarkson would have been so kind to the Favorit?

That's all ********.

If VW hadn't bailed out Skoda, they would have been eaten up and forgotten, just like Simca, Wartburg, Lada etc.

It's called Capitalism.

Cheap labour, cheap factory space, asset stripping etc.

VW didnt have much choice but to heavily invest in SKODA after the discovery of documents detailing whe exactly designed the beetle. ie skoda

tatra designers came up with the basic 'beetle' shape, and under communist rule this was shared with their fiercest rivals skoda, both of whom were taken over in 1936 and the plans hi-jacked. iirc anyway...
