Mods for an Octavia PD 130

Featured Replies

I've been reading lots on the forum since I ordered my new Skoda and just want to confirm what i've been reading.

The engine is the same as teh Furby VRS, is the gearbox the same (both 6 speed)? are there any differences to the tuning of the engines?

Tuning wise....

now is that a good thing or a bad thing? :)

Depends what mood he is in, and how the non-existent mods are performing on his 'SDI'. We all await Bruntingthorpe with bated breath...

:P

How is the 'Slow Diesel Insinuator' going then Jon?? ;)

MadMax_TTA, I suggest you revisit your questions at a later date when some informed advice may then be forthcoming. Can't say more than that for now.

Sounds like a petrol owner in denial to me :hilarius:

He might get a relevant reply one day soon

[/quote']Not that we know of, but apparently the golf has a less restrictive exhaust so it may have a bit more power than the Fabia, so it may also be the case with the Octavia.

Opinion is split on Greenstuff pads - you either love em or you think they're sh1te.

Excellent. Just goes to show how much information is on this forum, picked it all up in a week :D

In 6 and a half hours, I collect my car :D

DS2500 brake pads.

Becareful on the suspension front...many companies just use Golf suspension for the Octy and don't even take into consideration that it's heavier.

Would recommend KW3....expensive but at least you know that it's been specifically designed for the car and you can play with the settings to find your preference.

Can think of aynone who does a diesel sport exhaust. However Jabba are about to produce a sports dp/cat and cat back system for the Furby.

It may be that the dp/cat cat will fit the Octy but you would have to get a custom cat back. I don't see a problem in getting a custom cat back from Blueflame but, it may be expensive due to a "one off" nature.

When I next talk to Jabba I'll ask about the dp/cat fitment.

I'm in the latter category. Had them mated with some Godspeed "unwarpable" discs on the Scooby, and they warped them :( Got a mechanic mate to look at them and he basically said the problem with the EBC Greenstuffs is that they run very hot and tend to leave deposits on the discs leading to hotspots and eventually warping. Apparently they work well with the EBC discs though...

Much prefer the Ferrodo DS2500 pads we replaced them with. :D

On the engine side, I can vouch for the Jabba map producing over 180bhp, though the Octy zaust is probably less restrictive, so could expect a bit more.

The new box gizmo is yet to become available, but as soon as it does, my name will be down for one.

The green filter is fitted to mine too and I did notice a slight improvement in mid-range pull.

Exhaust wise, I can't say, but the downpipe/sports cat being developed for the Fabia vRS may well fit the Octy. I'll sure be going for one of them too! :D

Hi Madmax,

I guess you've go the beast now - hope (and sure) you are pleased with it!

On the suspension side, I would be wary about dropping it too low - with the sort of mileage you are doing, (similar to me), you probably use the car for business?

I have lowered mine by 30mm, using Eibach ProKit - it made a massive difference to the handling and stability of the car. However, even with 30mm lowering, speed humps have to be treated carefully!

John.

If I had a TDI I'd be able to help. Unfortunately I'm in a tricky position in that I don't actually like to recommend things unless I've done them myself. If I've read of someone doing it, I'd feel I had to caveat it to high heaven or I'd feel guilty suggesting it if it went wrong.

Brakes - don't touch the EBC greens if you like the odd spirited drive. I find on my diesel that the standard ones fade incredibly, the greens would do the same. If you are going EBC pads route, try the reds. Don't forget, there is a lot of mass you are trying to stop with little discs - heat goes right up. As has been said, DS2500s would be my preference. Get some decent fluid as well.

Suspension - depends what you are looking for and how much you have. I am always wary of just doing springs as they aren't always matched to the damper characteristics which can lead to all sorts of problems / foibles.

Apart from the engine front, the info in the "What mods should I do thread" are valid, IMHO

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Green Cotton thingy replacement panel airfilter. 3 to 4 bhp??

Powerflow exhaust - any benfits/downsides to removing the CAT? Also can you still specify the noise level you want for the powerflow exhaust? Will I gain any power??

You'll get a bit more response with a freeflow filter (in standard box) but dont expect too much - the view on the benefits of induction kits on diesels is mixed. Check out TDIclub.com for loads of info on this (use the search)

Ask Jason (devonutopia) about powerflow on a diesel, as he's just had one fitted... also a couple of people on here have fitted Miltek? IIRC

Benefits of free flowing exhaust are faster turbo spool up on a TDi but I've read about cases of reduced power output (usually torque) after fitting freeflow exhausts/cat removal on a Tdi - see tdiclub and seatcupra.net

emjoy the new motor!

Cheers everyone. I've decided to keep it standard looking (more fun) and I am damn impressed with the car (will do a write up in my intro thread)

:)
