Slight trouble selecting 3rd sometimes

Featured Replies

Going from 2nd to 3rd at speed is sometimes hard as it just seems solid with no where to go, it comes out of 2nd no prob and moves towards 3rd but will not go no further  but changing up at slower speeds is no prob at all and downshifting into 3rd is no prob at all ever. Has anyone else had this prob and would know how to cure this.

Does stick return to center by its self?

Does stick return to center by its self?

Hi Mart yes it springs back to center as it should do, going to do some cable adjustment tomorrow and see if that cures it hopefully thats the prob.

Problem sorted it was a simple adjustment, a garage close to me done it in less than 10 mins it now has nice smooth gear changes and best of all they did not even charge me for it. :D

Mine is a bit sticky going into third too, what should I ask my garage to adjust/look at to get it sorted?

I've had this once or twice, when flooring it from second to third it can sometimes take a bit of work to get into third.

the gear change linkage / cable apparently it just needs adjusting slightly just got in from a 40 mile drive with no ag what so ever

I get this every so often. Just tighten up the Right hand side gear linkage up by 2-3 mm and its sorted...

I too have this problem of shifting into 3rd and 5th, sometimes. Also when i downshift from 3rd to 2nd, I can 'hear' the gearbox. Car ha s done only 30,000 kms and this problem started after the gear oil was changed in last service.

Basil - can you elaborate on how to "tighten the right hand side gear linkage"? Do I access it by pulling up the leather sleeve around the gear lever? Thanks. Bomi.

Mine's been doing this too, I assume your talking of the thread adjusters on the selector cables near where they attach to the selector directly over the gearbox.

I'm tempted to tighten these myself but just want to clarify, when you say "right hand side" is that looking at the car from the front (i.e. nearest to the passenger side wing) or from in the car (i.e. nearest to the engine).

Thanks,

Niall
