Superchips REMAP

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Living down in in oooh aaaaah south we don't have many tuners around here.

BUT we do have a superchips tuner about 7 miles away.

Looking to get my mk1 vRS 1.8t done at some point.

Anyone had any experiences with them?

Here's the graph that they provide:

All the way down in Cornwall mate, I don't mind travelling a bit..

Was tempted to get it done at Awesome in Manchester as I'm going for a wedding in October, just worried if anything goes wrong etc... it's a long way from home!

Sorry mate

Did not realise you were that south,my only suggestion would be JKM performance in Portsmouth(highly regarded) is that still a bit of a trawl?

:D Hi - just had my Octy vRS Mk1 custom remapped at Jabba near Peterborough (I'm from Kent). Cost,

Impossible Performance are in Rochester,

Superchips maps custom as well, pricing seems to vary wildly though so it seems as I paid less and I've got a PD, they used to be more expensive

Impossible Performance are in Rochester,

TaviaRS had the superchips map on his old vRS for a while, it was ok'ish but didnt get the best out of the engine. He had a custom map done in the end, and wrote the cost of the superchips map off. The price seems very expensive, and for that price you can do far better, but you will need to travel a bit.

Performance driven is in Taunton and only 120 miles away, special deal of

APS in oxfordshire, formerly AMD.

APR software is good, and is run by several members on here without any problems. I'd go APR over superchips anyday.

The superchips map I've got is a custom map, and it will be tweaked free of charge for me as it seems like there is a lot more low down power/torque to be had - still, I reckon go for one that's good, and/or more local, depending on your personal preferences :)

Ive just searched and found 2 people with blown turbos after a celtic remap :o

The map is brilliant, a min of 225 bhp. The difference is unreal, your car will pull hard, all the way to the redline. To quote a friend 'it pulls like a train'. I don't know what software they use, etc... I was told that the remap would not be detected through any service diagnostic tools etc... No worries with dealership warranty.

It beds in over the first 100 miles of your travelling after the remap. Guys are friendly, knowledgeable and It doesn't take long.

I had a discount off them for having 3 cars at my address at the same time for them to reamap (mates, not mine).

Something i've noticed is, on my previous Vrs i had an induction kit and after the remap, when you floored it, especially going uphill or with weight in the car, you could feel like a pulsing sentation, as it the power was coming in waves (struggling to get out!). On my current Vrs, i've just gone with a K & N panel filter and don't have that problem, which feels better. Next stop is a decent exhaust i think.

Any more questions, no problem, i'll recommend these guys and try and answer any other queries.

Dave.

Hey, **** happens. Were they driving too hard, how old were the cars, mileage, wear on the turbo already?

Sometimes things go wrong, especially if your altering things so much. No doubt a remap will put more strain on your car, you just have to enjoy it responsibly.

When you say enjoy it responsibly, do you mean waiting for the oil to warm up (10 minutes say after driving) and letting the turbo cool down after driver (leave engine running for say 90 seconds). Not booting it all the time?

Sounds promising, I might give them a ring tomorrow just to see what price they quote. If it's

Yea, responsibly would definatley include warm up and cool down, just like exercise, ha. Also not booting it every where you go, when you do go out. An example of one turbo that blew, Celtic told me about was a guy who was doing track days on a regular basis and redlining in 5th / 6th on dual carriage ways, you get what I'm talking about.

BHP would be 225 or, 227, 8, 9. depends if you've changed anything else on the car, all they mean is, they're standard map is a guaranteed 225 bhp, should be fine. You'd have to enquiry about less bhp.

IMHO 225 is way, way too high for the standard turbo to take safely, but then it's not my turbo ;)

My old octy vRS was running 227BHP on a jabba remap and had no problems at all in the 35K miles it was mapped for before I sold the car. That 35K miles included around 75 Laps of the nurburging where the turbo was in use all the time.
