I read the small print, 20 quid gets you 8meg "unlimited" downloads and free international calls for my foreign swmbo. As long as we're connected for 9 months we shouldn't lose any money on the deal.

Mannyo, I had a quick look at pcworld but I think their offer is for specific laptops not any laptop like currys. despite being the same company :?

I don't even know the "flavours" of laptop cpus at the mo. Intel/AMD? what does core duo mean? How do the names compare to the old centrino/pentium/celeron standards?

For best performance you want a dual core cpu, so that will be either the intel core2 duo, or AMD Turion. For a laptop I would go core2 as it runs cool and doesnt seem to eat into the battery life. Clock speeds are much lower than what you would have seen in the past, ignore this as the processor architecture is different.

As long as you avoid the celeron cpu's you should be fine.

hmm how strange **** **** **** crap

profanity checker disabled?

so ****ed works but **** doesnt, thats strange

Settled for an Advent laptop in the end. Core 2 duo so it should be ok. My only worry is the integrated graphics. This should be ok for watching dvds/divx playback shouldn't it?

I would say so:thumbup:

No problem with integrated graphics for divx and dvd's, just dont expect to play the superduper latest games very well. My toshiba has integrated graphics and runs vista aero just fine.

Currys had a good SONY AT

that's ok then. Would be nice to have some games to play at some point but I don't know if older games will be vista compatible.
