Soaking Footwells!

My new Octavia is almost at it's 3 year waranty and it is in, as we speak, being checked out for water in the footwells.

All the footwells are soaked except behind the drivers side. Before it went in I Vaxed out 3L of water.

They have checked the common fault of door seals but no joy, and when I cleaned it out I checked under the dash for anything coming from the air conditioning but all was dry there.

The garage is going to soldier on but any offers!! :confused:

I would confirm the air con drain works properly by watching for a puddle under the car when the A/C is running full whack. You should have a small amount of water in about 5-10 minutes depending on temp/humidity.

At least you will be able to discount the air conditioning if the drain is good.

Saying that, we've had an awful lot of rain of late :rubchin:

Is it a MK II

If so when you say they checked the seals have they sealed the carriers in the door with sealent?

The fabia and MK II Octy use a design that often needs sealing to stop water ingress.

I had a passat previously with the same problem, when I asked the garage to check it out I explained that it seems much worse on hot days. they returned it having checked the door seals (they could find no problems). Eventualy I managed to persuade them to check the air con. Hey presto the air con drain was blocked and spurting up under the passenger and driver seats

Yes it is a MKII and on day 2 they found a leak on one of the doors?

The information I was getting from the supervisor and the fitter was confusing (the supervisor didn't have a clue what was going on).

They are now renewing all door seals, let's hope!

I once had an old car and rain got in through an imperfect windscreen seal.

Its been very wet of late but not so hot, I'd think rainwater rather than condensed water vapour from air con. I have a dehumidifier at home at to produce in excess of 5 litres it would have to be on for hours. Lets us know the outcome

The thing I am talking about isn't the door seals.

If they take the door cards off they will find metal plates that hold the window motor etc. Where these push up to the door they are supposed to form a water tight seal.. but in many cases obviously don't. There is a sheet from skoda telling the garages how to overcome this issue by sealing all of the carriers with a silicon type sealant.

If the garage hasn't done this then I would suggest it should be a first port of call.

Was this a recent thing and if so is the car still leaking?

Hi!

I had this problem recently. Found that the rats had eaten into some rubber under the wiper and got the whole area sealed with a sealent, still after spraying water the driver's side and seat footwell were wet. Later found that a rubber which carries some cables from the main body into the door was not properly put and the water was trickling down into this and into the carpets. Pls check all the rubber hoses.

Made the dealer remove the entire carpet and dry it and check for leakage again. Thankfully nothing now.
