Extended road test

Just back from holiday - 3500 miles through France and Switzerland. Verdict - more comfortable than our previous Octavia (number 2 son volunteered this information without prompting). I'm slightly disappointed with the economy cruising at 70-80 on French autoroutes only gave 52mpg, my father-in-law drove his VW Touran down and got better economy; maybe the Roomie needs the 6th gear that the Alsoran has. The car handled the Alps quite well, I hustled a couple of passes in it, and whilst understeer and roll are the name of the game, I still came out of it smiling. Brakes are good, no fade descending passes and the 1.9Tdi makes for enough grunt to overtake things reasonably quickly when fully laden. What we now have is a fly-splattered nose, brake dust wheels and all sorts of rubbish inside. Guess it needs cleaning!

Overall - very satisfied with the car now it's run in.
