If you insure with a reputable company they normally offer new replacement in the event of write off at under 2 years old. Mine certainly do

If that valuation didn't take into account the fact that it was a ltd edition, couldn't you have pushed for a bit extra on that basis?

It was the assessors valuation based on it being a limited edition. For all the messing about i've had, I just want the cheque in the bank so I can some freedom back!

Could write and try to demand the full value back, but I guess that's for when i've got the insurance sorted and a new car on the road.

Bluebeat; i'm going to look at Gap Insurance as soon as I know the car is confirmed. Shame I didn't even get offered it at the garage!

I thought they HAD to tell you about gap? My garage made me sign something to prove I'd been told about it?!

Excellent news!!!

That's to say the salesperson was doing their job in trawling through the usual sales patter (i.e. his manager checking up on him). It's not part of any legal requirement at handover. It's just a case of proving they did try to flog you every other additional product / service under the sun! Therefore, this may vary between dealers and franchises depending on procedures.

He made me sign something saying he had shown me around the car etc. But nothing to do with the GAP stuff. It wasn't a big deal as I wouldn't ever have bought it in there, would probably have thought about it privately mind.

GAP Insurance is big bonus for salesmen hence why it is often pushed quite strongly

I was asked this question because you can sue for the difference if it wasn't offered. Otherwise why would the salesperson make me sign for something I'd bought?

However in this case it sounds like the GAP policy would have cost more than the difference in price valuation offered again new price.

I'm not sure I understand you.

well, your valuation was near enough 12,900, but a GAP policy to give you exact retail price for your written off car (12,995) might have cost you up to 300 quid, so therefore it would have ended up costing you more to have the GAP

I always thought it was a legal obligation for dealers to offer you gap insurance. The last 4 cars I have had I had to sign the form saying I didnt want it.

They didnt ask me to sign to say I didnt want bloody diamond bright though but they tried there hardest to push that one on me :-)

No, the only reason they offer it is because it's (relatively) good commission and because when doing the deal it's not the sort of thing people shop around for - know someone whose just been offered it for
