VRS SE Write Off Value

Featured Replies

This is pretty much a follow up thread to the other written off VRS SE.

I'm just interested to know what sort of valuation I can expect to get from the insurance company? I had a look on the Glass's Guide and it has the list price of the VRS SE at 12,470. Which is nothing like the list price that's quoted. Clearly delivery charges etc can be taken out of the 12,990.

What sort of room is there for manouver with regards to the settlement figure you get offered? IIRC they use the private sale price of the vehicle also go to the nearest 1,000 miles and work by number of months. What sort of valuation do you think will be offered. The car had done 165 miles and was 6 days old. Including my

Would have thought they would offer you list price on a 6 day old car tbh, or replace like for like if availabe.

what he said

I keep saying this to people - If you buy a new car, make sure that your insurance policy will cover the cost of a replacement vehicle if any damage exceeds 60% of the list price.

It's a standard clause on many good policies.

Glass's List price or OTR Price? I'd take a guess at Glass's Guide.:(

Luckily i've got another one reserved *fingers crossed*.

Accident was 25th June, Declared Write Off 11th July, Still No valuation: Any grounds for them taking the pish a little?

I'd be inclined to say I wish you'd told me, but these 'good' policies are generally a lot more expensive that the cheaper ones. I'd be inclined to say I wish I hadn't bothered buying the car in the first place but... :D

I disagree, the policy I have with Sainsbury's/Esure is very reasonably priced and offers such cover. One of the reasons I left Admiral was that they didn't offer such cover.

I am with Admiral but the next best quote for me that I looked at was approximately double the premium.

I know it's all pie in the sky and too late now etc but it's all about a calculation of risk for you. For me to pay for instance an extra

You write a lot of sense. I just didn't find any that were anything like as reasonable, as I said, more than double the premium. You live and you learn, the only problem now is that I'm stuck with them for another 12 months as I paid my premium in one go. They won't release that money but will give me a 'loyalty' discount on a new car.

EDIT: No no claims and being 23 is a distinct disadvantage:) My previous insurance policy wouldn't cover the VRS without 2 years no claims and many want 1 year's no claims. So I was stuck between a rock and a hard place.:(

Surely you could argue for a brand new one at 6 days old and such tiny miles?

We will see. If they come to me and say we will give you 12,400 and take off the excess, leaving 12,100. Can I ask them to source me one for the

That should get you a decent pair of glasses and some wellies:)

So presumably if there's no new vehicles left you should be compensated with the full otr price of a new vehicle.

Well, as long as the garage don't screw me over, i've got another vrs se waiting for me. But from what I can gather, the market price is for a "private sale" would not be the otr price. So I'm not sure.

I'm a bit miffed really; the assessors sent all of the information to Admiral weeks ago regarding values etc, and now they're going back to Glass again to get the value?! I appreciate these things never run smoothly but it's coming up to 6 weeks on Monday!

To behonest mate, just stick to you're guns and hold out for what you htink it's worth.

My 06 was written off after six months with 5000 miles on the clock and after a few letters I ultimately managed to get the full list price minus

Value wise, is it going to be worth much more as a 57 compared to a late 07? Insurance goes down by nearly

I once had a car written off due to fire damage. The front end was completly gutted, no way it could be repaired. Thje insurance company collected it the following day and declared it a write off about 2 days later. It took them TEN WEEKS to issue a cheque in settlement, one excuse after the other. Needless to say didn't renew with them.

When I was with CIS, I smashed up my T reg Felicia. I'd paid

As of 1st August they valued the car at

Bit after the horse has bolted but back to receipt would have safeguarded any short fall from what the standard insurance will pay, Like most things great at taking your money , Till it it comes to pay back time then every excuse in the book seems to pop up,
