Pedal boxes a problem on octys?

Featured Replies

today i had a very good day, lol, driving luckily towards my nearest skoda dealer, when i go to change down to second, hear a snap and my clutch pedal hits the floor, the top weld on the pedal box had sheared off and the master cylinder had shot forward, i have known these to be a problem on the early polos, but never really had any problems on the golf mk4 platform, im just so gutted, cause its 400 squid and 2 days before i go on holiday argh, hopefully if will be done tommorrow and ill be able to go fingers crossed, lucky it didnt go on the way to newquay as that would have been a right pain, and over 2hours for the aa to turn up lol, anyway rant over, someone cheers me up

It happens on some of the MK3 ibiza cupra's as well.

Trust me my brother had it happen to him.

He just removed the pedal and got it welded back up good as new.

Like you said though at least you were heading for the dealers at the time

exactly the same thing happened to me at roadworks traffic lights a few days before last Christmas. the box welded to the top of the back of the clutch fragmented and bang the pedal went flat to the floor. It also bent the piston on the clutch cylinder. Car is Jan 99 reg and had approx 100000m on it at the time. AA towed me to local indi garage who fixed it. AA man said he hadnt seen this before. Gave me a fright when it happened.

Local council guys at roadworks were really good got my car push started and managed to get it off the trunk road I was on in 2nd to a mates house nearby to await AA.
