Transfer PDF website to Word? Please? Ta.

Featured Replies

There doesn't seem to be a way to export PDF files - unless perhaps by sending it as an email to oneself. Is there an easy way that I'm missing please?

Many thanks

Mo

To print a file as a .PDF file ????

Do you want to go from Word document to PDF or the other way around? I've used https://www.pdfonline.com/convert_pdf.asp a few times to convert my CV (in Word) to PDF (to send by email), and it works great.

Hi and thanks mluton. The idea is to put it into Word so that extracts can be selected as aide memoires. (Understanding copyright restricts etc so not to re-publish.) Unfortunately the mouse doesn't work on PDFs and no HTML alternative available.

HTH?

Use ctrl+c and ctrl+v instead, assuming the pdf is authored as text. if authored as graphics then you cant copy the text.

Also when viewing a PDF the viewer is in scroll mode by default (the little hand cursor). Click on the select icon (an I-beam cursor) at the top of the window to allow selecting blocks of text.

Thanks Nick. Found a "T+text box" icon in the toolbar that seems to do the trick

Mo is happy :boing:

Can I ask mannyo how one would know if a site is authored as text or graphics please? I assume the T icon would be missing from the toolbar, but assumptions by me as a layman probs not reliable LOL.

TIA and thanks all :)

Mo

I think thats right, the T icon maybe greyed out.

if a PDF is an image, rather than text, then instead of the I-bar cursor, you will get a + cursor which will allow you to select/highlight a rectangular area, instead of being able to highlight as individual words

this area can then be copied as an image, and pasted into a word document as an image rather than as text.

so for the purposes of being able to read it - no worries, you just won't be able to change any of the text

I'm using full Acrobat Pro, so this might be different for people just using Acrobat Reader.

One other thing you can try with an image based PDF (like a scanned document) is highlight an area with the + cursor, right-click, and then pick the option to "recognise Text using OCR" - and it'll try and turn it into text fro you to then copy&paste individual words. Your success will depend on how clear the writing is. You might end up with 5 instead of S, or j instead of i or l or 1 or ! for example

Alternativly if you have onenote, take a screenslice of the text portion and get it to OCR the slice.
