Anybody running 225/40 on 18"x18 rims

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Is anybody running 225/40 tires on 18"x8 rims here?

I'm thinking of fitting some audi replica wheels on my O1 but I want to make sure that I won't have any rubbing issues on heavy loads or sharp turns...

PS I'm not planning on lowering my car

Cheers

Berre

ok 225/40/18 wont fit 18" wide alloys

If you mean 18" diameter and 8" wide then yes they'll fit.

damn.. ok that should be 18x8 :D

anybody any pics of this setup? I'm especially interested in the space between the side of the tyre and the inside of the wheel-arch...

Thx

Berre

Fit easy mate...i have RS6 replicas on mine 18" x 8" ;) did have RS4`s 18x8.5 and they stuck out past the arches:( Sorry no pics.

hi, I have 18"x8 RS4 replica alloys fitted & the car has been lowered 30mm with weitec springs. I've had no problems with the tyre rubbing on the arches, even when carrying a hefty load.

Hi,

there is stacks of room under the arches for a set of 18's. I am running some A8 replicas with 225/40/18 tyres, and I have had nothing but pleasure from them. The handling and wet weather grip is dramatically better too...

Getting the middle of the centre caps resprayed to match the contrasting colour from the wheels at the mo....will look even better once this is done!

just fitted new rs4 reps.. with 225/40 18s .. have yet to give em a good workout .. had the 2 kids in the back and shopping .. no scrub

i find it a little stiffer on the bumpy stuff but it just makes it tighter to drive and more fun i think]

not on this car guys .. on the vrs must try and set up another picture on this ..help

@ wormfish & mgpd: are your cars lowered? If not can you post a pic from the side of your car?

I'm not planning to lower my car and I would like to see how this looks before I spend my euro's :-)

cheers

Mine is not lowered. The pic in my previous post shows the side view, if you need a full length shot, let me know and I will do one

I got 18 x 8 not long ago with 225 40 tyres on and they fit fine. I dont even think i'd have room for much of a drop cos the wheels stick out a bit but they still look nice. this photo makes it look like i could drop it 30 mm but there is no spare or sub in the boot so its riding higher than normal at the back.

damn... that bursts my bubble, I thought 8x18 would fit nicely in the arches...

I don't want them sticking out because I live in Belgium where there are more speedbumps then straight roads  and I'm afraid I would hit the arches...

anybody else where 8x18 stick out

hi, berre. Those pics of my car I emailed you are with the car lowered by 35mm with weitec springs. I have no issues with tyres rubbing on the arches at all. With the 35mm drop you have about 20mm clearance,( just get my fingers in between tyre & arch) but wouln't advise going any lower than 35mm. I have had a car full of passengers & had no issues.

Im on 18's, they sit perfect in the arch, 225/40/18's, dont look like they would foul if lowered but i think they look right on my car at normal height.

@ WelshLoon : isn't your car lowered?? looks very low compared to other octavia's on standard riding hight...

I have about 20-25mm clearance between tyre & arch. I can just get my fattest part of my fingers in between.

When I lowered the car I was so worried too. The gap looked so close, but I've Not had any tyre/arch contact over the 4 months everythings been fitted . Speed humps... I'm surrounded by the things & even they've not caused any problems! ( but I do tend to go slower over them, because of the firmer ride).

It depends on the offset of the wheels whether they stick out or not.

Indeed... I suppose everybody here has ET35?

Cheers

Berre

persoanlly i would go ET 30 with only and 8" rim (assuming you havent really bought 18x18 )

i ran 8.5" with ET30 though that did rub when running with 245s and a 50mm drop......

Hi Paul,

I think you mean the space between wheel and arch when looking from the side but I mean the free space in the arch (looking from above so to speak)....

I once tried a set of 18x8.5 (ET35) and the came approx 0.5cm (0.2 inch) outside the arches so if my calculation is correct an 8x18 wheel should fall approx 0.5cm (0.2 inch) in the arches

Does that sound right?

Cheers

no they dont look like twin cam corollas or big wheeled minis but it will increase the track width but only in a good waymaybe 2 inches overall that isnt a bad thing is it???

like the wheels, how much and where did you get them from:thumbup:

With a 35mm drop (on a vRS) my 225x40x18s did rub on full left hand down lock so far as the front offside tyre was concerned. However, the rubbing was minimal so I cut away the wheel arch liner in the offending area and no problems since.
