vRS glove compartment vibration

Featured Replies

is this a known issue? noticed on mates vRS SE, when accelerating u can hear vibrations coming from the glove compartment. It stops when passenger presses against it

anyone else get this? any easy cure or just sticky tape?

I've resorted to leaning over and hold it occasionally whilst driving...not exactly comfortable but it's starting to bug me a little bit because the resonance of the engine during acceleration proper makes it go like a buzzing fly!!!

Might just blu-tak it for the time being until i take it in next week

grrrr

Might be worth dropping the glove box down - Only 5 screws, and refitting it.

As a side note - have you got the secret compartment in yours? Happened to be doing a job on a Bohemia yesterday and it was missing.

I had a similar rattle, but when they looked at it they said it was the stabiliser bar behind the glovebox, not the actual glovebox or door itself.

they fixed/tightened it, but i think the rattle might be coming back

the other bizzare rattle I have is the 2 seatbelt "grabbers" in the middle of the rear seats knocking together, which is solved by doing up the middle seatbelt, even though no-one's there, as it pulls it away from the other grabber.

Yea its got the secret compartment, not sure why it's there..its not exactly that secret lol!

It hides the owners manual pack nicely.

I had a very minor vibration noise from some where around the glove box as well, I think it might have been the wire to the glove box light. I recently took the box out to fit a multichanger in there and when I put it back the noise stopped.

I would take it off and maybe have a look at the wires. its really simple.

You just take out the five screws and the right side will drop down a bit (Right hand drive car). Then open the passenger door and and push the trim off of the end of the dash board. Keep hold of the box when doing this as the wire for the light and the Air condition pipe is attached on the right side. Then just have a bit of a poke arround. I cant remember seeing anything else which would rattle down there. As said above the tray might be vibrating a bit. I took this out to put the changer in...

Speaking of holding the box while accelerating. After I put the radio in I had a minor problem with it falling out when I accellerated! I didnt have the right facia platete at the time so I didnt secure it in fully.

i also had this problem think it was the glove box door vibrating left it over time and it seems to have disappeared

I had a problem with the glovebox door vibrating under acceleration and fixed it myself with a quick 2 minute job.

All you need is some sticky backed velcro. You use the soft half of the velcro and cut out a round section about 7mm across and stick it to the glovebox door where it is supposed to meet with the rubber stopper this then acts as a kind of pillow and stops the vibration.......

Kind of hard to explain but if you want any further help i could post a couple of pics of what i mean etc.......

Cheers

Dave.

Self adhesive foam padding or self adhesive velcro. That stuff for draftproofing doors is quite good from B&Q.

That sounds a good idea. wouldnt have thought i'd need to do any diy with a brand new car though. Was contemplating on taking it back to the dealer but I guess a DIY job with the velcro would be handy!

Thanks Dave
