Mercedes MAF

Featured Replies

hi, my Maf's acting up and iv'e ordered the mercedes one as my dealer wont swap it until it completely fails... i was wondering as anybody fitted one yet and what are they like? also where can i get the tool to undo the screws?

Tom.

Could you please post the part number when you get the MAF, and report back on how you get on with it. Others may wish to follow in your steps given the enormous difference in prices.

How do you know ? What are the symptoms of a dodgy MAF.

hi Gaff, i had it on the rollers at Amd. and it's power dropped like a stone at 2600 revs. Amd diagnosed a faulty Maf.

Tom.

Couldn't it be that you just hit the rev limiter? ;)

Did you find any difference with the car before you went to Amd. On mine the power would dip around 2500rpm and then come back. I did have the MAF changed but I wasn't sure if it was to cure this problem, I think it did as it doesn't happen anymore. Whats the idling like, mine needle now seems to pulsate up and down periodically after a spirited drive.

Sorry for the questions, I don't know much about under the bonnet.

GAFF, the diesel and petrol MAFs are different. I don't think anyone has identified or even considered a Mercedes MAF replacement for the 1.8T's MAF yet.

I'm not thinking of replacing my MAF with the mercedes one, just interested in what symptoms it gives when oneis on the way out.

i honestly didn't notice that there was anything wrong. i rarely give it loads of welly and it doesn't feel like the power tails off. it's ticking over normally, about 1k revs.

Apparently a common symptom is a noticable flat spot in the performance

Hi All,

Replaced the Bosch MAF in my octy 1.9 tdi 90bhp.

The symptoms before replacement were a total power loss when going up hills, overtaking etc. Couldn't get above 2000 revs. Poor starting when warm.

Terrible fuel consumption as well.

I got my Mercedes MAF from euro carparts, (0113 394 5000), part number 434220200, total cost inc delivery of

Many thanks for that info, trailblazerxp. :D

Hi all,

Replaced my MAF with an MB (pierburg) unit many months back - change was night and day - anybody who's still thinking, just go do it!!.

Anyway, reason for my post - has anybody got through the MOT yet with the MB unit fitted? - do I need to swop the goosed original unit back on for the test?

Thanks all

Shouldnt be any reason why you would need to swp it back.

I had one fitted to test it but it was no good for my latter map as the air mass signals were out of range on the Mercedes sensor and it brought the EML up and logged a fault. Genuine air mass meter has been fine, no faults.

So be wary they might not be right for a remapped car, depending on the map.

Thanks Ross, mine is a 99 Octy - AGR engine code, has run fine for at least six months now, I know this MAF causes slight overfuelling (relative to actual air-flow), so just wondered if the emissions were being pushed above MOT levels or not - ?

If the worst comes to the worst it'll go in, get tested and if it fails I'll have the old one in the glove box.....
