Help please. Replacing tyres, which make/where from?

Featured Replies

Hi

Just joined the Skoda community again, after buying a mk2 Octy vRS Tfsi.

Loving it, much more smoother/refined etc. but I do miss the kick of my old mk1 vRS. So maybe a remap in the near future :D

Had the car about 2 weeks now and I should really replace the tyres as they are a bit short on tread

So, I would be grateful if anybody could recommend what make tyres are best to replace my worn standard 225/40/18's ?

Same again? or a different brand?

Also the cheapest place to get them from

Thanks in advance

Damian

Damo what ever tyres you go for try Autodynamics near Don Valley.

They are part of black circles and were the cheapest i found

Have to admit, blackcircles are pretty good, cant beat their prices normally.

I find its difficult to recommend tyres as there is a lot of personal prefernce involved. I love the Toyo Proxes T1 tyres, even though they are fairley soft and wear quite quickly, they are an awsome all round tyre. However, you will find others that disagree and have their own favorites.

Thats my 2 penneth anyway :D .

I've used both Cheap Tyre Prices | Dunlop Goodyear Pirelli | Discount Car Tyres | Tyre Shopper and Car Tyres this year for tyres and found them to be the cheapest, but I suspect it does depend on make and size.

Once I've got a price from them I usually go to my local tyre centre and see if they will beat (or match) the prices on line - they normally do.

Thanks for that.

I like the look of the Avon ZZ3's at

I've been pretty chuffed with my T1-R's so far. Also bought them from Blackcircles.com They were the cheapest, and the nearest approved fitter was only 2 minutes from my house. :)

Another vote for Toyo T1-R's, brilliant tyres compared with the Dunlop SP Sports that came as standard

i've had the toyo's and their a good tyre but now back on continentals, seem a lot better and have agood side wall to protect curbing.

if you want to mail order try looking at mytyres.co.uk they are pretty reasonable and offer full cross section from cheap to gold plated

That's a VERY good price;

Just got some Michelin Eagle F1 GSD3's fitted to mine, will see how they wear.

Michelin pilot sport are quite good :) ...but really expensive

Thanks Stuart. I am definitely in need of some tyres in the very near future.

They don't seem to last too long these days.

Just got this month's (October) copy of Evo and next month {Novemebr issue due out 19th September} they are doing a mega 9 tyre test - ought to be good reading.

If you can wait that long.

Is this a new make of tyre? Michelin Pilot or Goodyear Eagle? ;)

Doh, meant Goodyear Eagle :)

Thought so. Well done. Nice tyre and generally well liked by Briskodians.

Enjoy them!

Falken 452.. Have just got a pair myself, they were extremely slippery in the wet, but now they have a few hundred miles on them the release coating appears to be going and they are sharpening up nicely.

Cheap too :)
