What is so great about a Skoda?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! :)

I'm not really into Skodas myself.......but I would love to hear why everyone here loves them so much!!!!!!

(I'm currently writing a dissertation about Skoda's re-branding/re-positioning and how they have attempted to change their image)

So if you have any ideas/thoughts about this matter......let me know!!

Did you used to have a negative opinion of Skodas but now this has changed, or have you always liked Skodas? - That kind of thing..............................It would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

natalie come along on the 24th to the national meet... you question is too long for all of us to answer in full on the board...

am sure that you will find enuf material on the day and from threads on the board to write 25k words without problem....

Yeah - come along on the 24th - I think we'd all be happy to give interviews on tape for you to use as evidence in your dissertation...

I don't know why you'd choose this topic for a mega-essay, if you're not that much into Skodas, but you've seriously chosen the right place to come. ;)

BTW - a short version of my opinion.

pre late 90s (1997ish) = skoda = skip = miracle at top of a hill = double value by putting mars bar in drivers door, etc etc.

Then the felicia came out which although not appealing to the eye seemed reliable and went OK... I think this is when VW began dabbling in their affairs. Also the first Octavias began appearing which were excellent

2000 onwards = Fabia came out, got rave reviews from everywhere - supermini of the year 2000 IIRC, which made me get one in June 2001. Also 2001 was when the RS Octy came out and finally there were some Skodas that were "pliable" if thats the word.

I think Audi's "vorsprung durch technik" slogun also applies to Skoda as well in the last 5 years.

Stop telling everyone how good they are ! I'll soon have to buy a CitiRover to be no-herd at this rate!!

Are you cute? ;)

   You have come to the right place to get the info you need, Natalie! I only hope you have the time to read all the relevant threads.

Perhaps you also need to think about why you said that as part of your research. :(

Or anyone else - e.g. inviting the poor lass along to the national meet!

Welcome to Briskoda, Natalie. :wavey: You've certainly come to the right place for opinions about the Skoda marque - and just about anything else.

I suspect that you not quite as indifferent about Skodas as you suggest, since you (apparently) drive a Superb, and have chosen to write a dissertation about the Skoda image.

well lets hope that Natalie makes it to the National Day,

i know we'll all make her very welcome!!!!!!

answer all her questions and then ask for her telephone number!!!!!hahaha

Alex

Are you cute? ;)

Well I am at least :D

Welcome Natalie. I drive a Skoda because it is different from being seen in the usual suspects and they are also one of the best vfm caes on the road. (oh and they handle well as well)

Or anyone else - e.g. inviting the poor lass along to the national meet!

All in all it is not a bad idea Steve from a research point of view, at least as it is easier to ask questions in person as most people I know find it hard to give a decent answer though typing. :)

I think Skodas are brilliant because ....... (answers in less than 25 words please)

Nah, generally it's because you get the performance, build quality etc of a VW or Audi for much less money. Personally I love the inverted badge snobbery, and frequently find myself sneering at people who've coughed up good money for a base model BMW 318 or Audi A4, when they could have got a fully loaded Octy or Superb instead. I also love the "stealth factor", the vRS is not exactly a high profile car (unless it's yellow) and yet it kicks the **** out of most of the common "sporty" motors out there.

In terms of the re-branding they've very much gone for the angle that a Skoda is a very shrewd purchase for the discerning motorist, which it's hard to disagree with, without actually shouting out "it's a Golf / Passat with more gadgets and a lower list price", which was a good move, you don't want to alienate other VAG customers but equally there are plenty people here who'd be offended if their Skud was described as a VW (myself included) :D

Sheer VFM and the inverted snobbery of it all...

Natalie, if you want a lift to and from the National day, drop me a PM and I'll be more than happy to take you there.

Hey, I'll even talk about Skodas if I must :D

Did you used to have a negative opinion of Skodas but now this has changed, or have you always liked Skodas? - That kind of thing..............................It would be much appreciated!

I can honestly say I'd never even looked twice at a Skoda until I clapped eyes on the Octavia vRS. The badge was always one I considered to be a bit of a joke. However, here was a car the press was raving about, and it cost about

The reason I went for a Skoda was because I needed a reliable, economical car which had a bit of performance and handling, so was still fun to drive. Didn't care about the badge .... well, in a way I did because it meant my insurance was low because no one wants to nick a Skoda

Build quality is pretty good and for a (diesel!) car that's covered 54k miles, it doesn't have one rattle or squeak and is loaded with full electrics, heated seats, 6-disk CD changer and climate control, and I can quite happily do a 3 hour drive in it without a break.

My only real gripe is the fact that the "warning" systems all use the same buzzer, so I have a heart attack every time the screen wash gets low! :)
