octy vrs toughness

Featured Replies

Was just wondering how you lot rate the octy vrs enging and trans for toughness ;) , As I just love putting my foot down in every gear and revving the nats out of it ( 6000 rpm in most gears :D ), It just gives me such a big smile.

What sort of probelms do you think it will bring if i continue this

What have you guys experianced in the breakdown department?

All i have noticed is the cam belt ( or chain ) not sure, is quite a bit noisier when started from cold and when it has wramed up

Thanks for the feedback.

P.S Its not chipped yet  But will be soon :D

Just carnt stop myself

Well.. we got TaviaRS(jon) on here his RS was modded up and the original engine and turbo lasted 120000 miles or so.. with 12k of them on a track.. even then the engine failed due to a manufacturing defect on one of the conrods (apparently) :)

I`ve just changed to the Octy vRS from an Integra Type R, and intend to drive it in (almost) the same way.

The Teg redlined at 9500rpm and was driven there ALL the time.

And still it lives. As long as you don`t thrash when cold, keep the oil ok, serviced etc and let the turbo idle after a caning - it`ll be ok.........

This article in our links section might help answer questions about the 1.8T's durability. The newer versions of that engine have been designed to take full advantage of Longlife oil which should improve their durability further.

cheers dennis, have read that before  , was wondering if anyone on this forum had any bad experiances ;)

YAY!! a fellow ex TEG owner with an octy Vrs  ....makes a change from all the ex scooby owners i suppose ;).How do you reckon the octy stacks up against the "beast" then?.Bet your missing the VTEC scream and mad revs ;).I am :(.Then again the chipped octy is blazingly quick in a straight line ;).

Aha - Glad i`m not the only one who "defected" ;)

Yeah, i`m missing the Teg, but i really needed the space - but still wanted a bit speed... So the Octy fitted the bill.

I`m SO missing VTEC. :(:(:(

It`s a well different drive - i find myself changing gears when i need not too - just a trait from the Teg to keep it on the boil as it were......

Haven`t had mine chipped yet, but fully intend too. :D

The only real problems i`m finding are :

1. Handling - no where near as good. No confidence in the corners anymore :( What`s the best solution here?

2. The seats. The Recaros were SUPERB. When i`m cornering, i`m jamming my leg against the centre console ok for support, but still seem to slide all over in the seat?! Also - the gear stick compresses (ready for reverse) if you`ve your hand on it mid corner....... Summit i`ll have to live with i suppose......

But - i`ll get used to it.......

Had the Octy for 2 weeks now - haven`t found anything to really complain about tho` - which can only be a good thing. Only just started missing the Teg now...... I wake up sometimes thinking - have i done the right thing?

Oh - and i SO want an LSD on the octy...... I promised myself never to buy another car without one....... :/

MY GOD.....all those "concerns"!!!...you sure your not me??? ;).I know what your saying m8,confidance in cornering is way down compared to the teg.The lack of the limited slip dif makes cornering in the Vrs "differant" but when you get used to it and learn to trust it,youll find its not that bad at all.More understeer of course, which you wont see much of in a teg ;).

As for the gear changes.......ahhahaahah.....your speaking my language :).Im Just about learning that i dont have to stir the box like a witch over a cooking pot ;).On the motorway just stick it in fifth and let the torque do the work.......and when you want some proper thrust...drop to 4th or even 3 rd ;).YOU MUST GET IT CHIPPED aswell, that is one thing i cant stress enough.Car is totally transformed 4th gear from 85 ish to *** is one hell of a sight to see when your chipped ;).

Dont know what to do about the noise though....thats probably the one thing im really beginning to miss.....strange really.....when you have the noise it can get tiresome after a while......when you havent got it....you miss it like hell ;).Near 9000 rpm gear change in a tunnel with window open and apexi air filter open to the engine bay brings a noise that would make a grown man weep :D .Sod it.....maybe in a few years ill get myself one for some track day nonsense  .Best car ive ever owned.....the tavia is gonna have to go some to beat it...........although i would say that at the moment it is in 2nd place in my list of best cars ive owned. And since its been chipped ,it would be fair to say a not to distant second ;).

OHHHHHHH im coming over all dewy eyed here.......anyone wanna buy a chipped vrs? ;).I think youll grow to love the tavia though, its not quite as much balls to the wall fun as the teg but it has its plus points and is an exciting drive in its own right. Its never gonna be as exciting as the teg purely because its a more compromised car than the teg ever was,but when you werent in the mood the ITR could be somewhat wearing whereas IMHO the Tavia occupies a more middle ground.

As my patented scientificly proven sliding graph clearly shows the octy is the best compromise for cheap, comfy and quick motoring ;).

I've had my vrs 3 weeks and am well happy. The speed is fantastic and how many Beemers have I annoyed the hell out of?????? The only thing that is annoying me is the electric window switch, touch it and it goes all the way down. Very annoying when trying to flick the ash out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Manguish,

Handling? KW Varient3, linear springs and ask for it set up for fast road and the Ring. Corner speeds go up by about 20mph over a standard one :D

Noise? Contact Hayward and Scoot and ask for their decat system. Loud and tuneful, but not drony on the motorway.

LSD? Get a quaiffe unit fitted. There's a place near Southampton that does them.

Seats? Go to a breakers and get either Golf R32 / Recaros from a Golf

Sorted :D

Oh and then your exhaust flames well :D

Add,

just lightly touch the leccy window swithc will allow you to lower by as much as you want. If you press the switch and feel a distinct "notch" then the window will go all the way down.

To raise is the same in reverse...if you know what I mean.
