Good Evening

Featured Replies

Having just lost my Peugeot 307 HDi to the flood waters of 3 weeks ago, have decided it's time for a step up in performance (and backwards in fuel economy, insurance premiums etc).

Spent the evening trying to decide between a Volvo S60 D5 and an Octavia VRS (both would have to be 2nd hand due to finances). Running costs of the latter worried me, but I figure that at 27 I'm not old enough for a Volvo yet so the decision is to find an Octavia for a year, then after that year either sell it if it's too pricey, or mod it somewhat then and have even more fun. Pretty certain I know what the answer to that question will be already ;)

Think I shall mostly be lurking and grabbing whatever info \ tips I can :)

Hello Mike

Bad news on the Peugeot, but i assume the insurance will deal with that.

I made the leap to Skoda about 9 months ago from a corolla t sport and have to say jokes aside the whole"experience" has been really positive,i have had no real problems and any answers i have needed have been found on these very forums,if you follow the advice given etc ,i think you could be in for a pleasant surprise.

Surely it's good news on the loss of the peugeot  ;)

A wise choice though mate, just remember to park the Octy on some higher ground.

Bad luck in the flooding, where do you live that has suffered so badly?

Having had to drive a lot of Peugeots when I worked for them you are better off with a skoda come rain or shine

My friend lost his Alfa in Hull, he wanted a Volvo S60 D5, I (obviously) suggested a Skoda. His wife would not, and I quote "Having one of those on my driveway, but it is alright for him (me)." He has ended up with a 1.6i Scenic, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

Buy the Skoda. MPG is not bad on the VRS, when driven steadily. But when you want to have fun you have everything you need there. Other than that I have had my VRS for two years and the costs are negligble, I have had no issues other than normal running costs, service & tyres from a car with 115k on the clock. Don't forget that these engines only run in at 100k. So mine is in its prime.

Thanks all for the welcome. The Peugeot was parked in Shipston On Stour and the river literally came up all the way through the town. Think I shall be parking any new car on stilts !

Had a minor setback today when the car I was off to see was sold when I got there, so I now have a back-up plan while I wait for another one to come on the market (Yellow being in short supply ! Might have to settle for black instead).

I can point you in the direction of an 07 plate ex demo MKII TFSi if that suits.

The Sprint Yellow one in Winchester?:P

Hiya.

Alternative suggestion - Octi TDi 110 or 130. Step up in power but not down much in fuel economy compared with the Pug.
