cenral locking/parcel shelf thingys/door lock pin things

Featured Replies

A recent change of work has prompted me to 'invest' in a 1999 1.3 Felicia 1.3LXi for my 110 mile daily commute.

So far (3500 miles) I have been very happy with the car; cheap to buy, insure and tax and I'm getting an average of 42MPG.

I have a couple of questions though which I'd appreciate some help with - here goes:

  • Should I have central locking on a LXi? Either I don't or I do and it's not working!
  • I am 'missing' some minor bits - anyone have some spares kicking around or point me in the right direction to get some:
    • 2 x parcel shelf cords (for raising the shelf when you open the boot).
    • 1 x parcel shelf peg (attaches to the side of the shelf and acts as a hinge when it is lifted).
    • 1 x door locking pin cover (U-shaped bit that pin sits on on door; really annoying as door lock pin rattles without it!).

[*]Rattling at idle - presume that this is the timing chain. Car's done 55k - should I replace this and are there any advantages to replacing it - apart from acoustic? Presumably unlike a belt there is no danger of it snapping??

All help gratefully received!

First of all you should have central locking to my knowledge and a common fault with these is the boot not locking with it. I just live with it. If your other doors aren't locking then there is a problem with the mechanism. Others may have suggestions on how to tackle this.

Those cords on the parcel shelf were missing on mine when i bought the car and i picked new ones up from main dealer for 89p!!!

I also have one of the plugs missing and just live with it.

Try the scrapper or main stealer for the pin cover it should be buttons.

As for the timing chain they all rattle i'm afraid due to there not being a tensioner and the chain stretching over time. I had mine changed at 80k because it was making a right racket and it has transformed it. Cost me

central locking was not fitted to the lxi, unless specified. it was fitted to gli models and above.

as for the other bits , the parts are cheap enough from main stealers or try graham at jorily skoda in barnsley 01226280351

eBay UK Shop - Jorily Skoda: Estelle Rapid, Favorit, Felicia

Rattle could be heat sheild? I think a heat shield rattle would be a more brighter sort of sound and go away when not at idle. You would definitely be able to tell it was the heat shield at the back of the engine if you have the bonnet open while it's idling anyway.

Didn't realise this

Guys,

Thank you for the help - I'll be off to Jorily for my bits then.

Thanks again.

Central locking is standard from Aug 99 on 1.3 LXi

The parcel shelf cords are very flimsy, better if you use ones from a Rover 100/Metro

First thing I did when I bought my felicia was to replace the parcel shelf cords with the plastic supports used on favorits (very cheap from Skoda dealer). They are a definite improvement.

Is the boot actually connected with the central locking? I can't remember seeing an actuator around the boot lock area.

No it isn't - you have to operate by the key or boot release by the drivers door.
