Audi TT 6spd Box

Featured Replies

I have the chance of a 6spd box from an 01 TT.

Would there be any benefit from putting this into the vRS ?

I'm going to be doing a lot of motorway driving etc...

Also is the 2wd/4wd an issue ?

apparently you can blank over teh output for the transfer box but you will need a few other parts to fit it like a clutch/flywheel/starter motor/selectors/drive shafts etc

advantages are a much stronger box but that only comes into it if your running 350bhp or more but gearing wise 6th is the same as your 5th i think so cruising won't be any different.

You'd have to get a blanking plate fo rthe transfer case...no rwd.

Also I'm not sure if this require equal length drive shafts.....Octy are definately unequal...if it does I don't know but doubt it would line up properly.

EddyH would be the man to ask, but his is 4WD.

or stuart, des, dave, steve and me(maybe more) seeing as i have all the bits sat in my garage :)

Thanks guys.

It was more the longterm benefit of the 6th gear, but if the gearing is roughly the same as the 5spd, it's probably not worth it.

i think top is exactly the same in both gear boxes but with the 6 speed you can accelerate quicker due to being able to keep it in the torque band and as said its much much stronger but with standard ish poewr that shouldn't be a worry anyway.

TBH I think the 5 speed box is all you need. When making rapin progress will my

6 speed gearbox I seem to be changing gear all to soon :)

Feel like a bloody rally driver......

I think Bengie said it all in his first reply.

Again, thanks guys.

I'm not going to be doing any engine upgrades, so not really worth my while.

I do have access to everything else in the car, driveshafts etc...but i dont see the effort being worth it for no real gain.

Cheers again.

i don't think TT drive shafts would work anyway, i think you'd need LCR or golf anniversary shafts but i'm not 100% on that.

I think Bengie said it all in his first reply.

Agreed, It took 350 bhp to break the 5 speed box I had so unless you are tuning the car heavily you are wasting your money, the box will be relativly cheap, should be 250-300 but its the rest that costs the money.

If you want mods for motorway driving try fitting cruise control
