Intermitent self locking doors

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have an 01 2.0 Elegance and the doors have begun intermitently self locking. Any one any ideas?

Or anyone know a decent independant mechanic in west london?

Ta.

sounds like water ingress into a front door control unit.

were abouts is the front door control unit? so i can check it out.

Thanks.

It requires taking off the door trim, when that off, the control unit is situated behind the membrian. depending on age of the car its a clear plastic(older) or grey foam(newer). the control unit also is the window lifter motor.

now remove the block conector and check for signs of water.

(its a bad design cos the unit is exposed to water running past the bottom window seal.)

Isn't there a CL unit in the boot as well which suffers when the washer pipe parts.

there is a problem with washer pipes in the boot coming apart and soaking the block connectors for boot and tailgate electrics, which rots the wiring, I've lost count how many i've re-wired lol

there is no CL unit in the boot tho.

I've seen no end of people changing tailgate switches for that one..lol
