guys followin my crash im lookin 4 a new car i couldnt get an octavia like mine and the only other one i want is the new vrs but i couldnt go for that yet. so i was think about an A4 either a 1.9tdi 130bhp se/sport about 2002/03 and maybe the quattro version. can anyone offer me any tips and pointers what i should look 4. i really want to stick wit the vw group but not a pasat as a freind just got one. or else any other reliable cars pref german. think i will have about 7000 to spend. thanks :)

I drove a new A4 SE with the 1.9 TDI 130bhp lump in it, back in 2003. Car was ok, but a bit on the dull side to drive, didn't come with a whole lot of kit for the money, but I did like the black and red dials, maxidot and the doors closed with a thunk. Seats were pretty hard and not especially comfy, but that could have been down to my poor adjustment of them.

It was an Avant and looked pretty smart, but was let down by quite a bit of wind noise, particularly noticeable when travelling in the back of the car.... chap who owned it used to regularly get 7-800 miles out of a tank though so very economical, if that's your thing :D

Personally I wouldn't bother with the 4x4, just adds weight and drinks fuel unless you know you'll need it or particularly like the feel of it.

Seats are hard in A4s. Looks good though and is a car that is growing old gracefully.

BMW 320D also? Would be a similar sort of price for the same age of car but rwd and 160bhp. Class of it's own to drive.

Might also be worth getting your calculator out and seeing if diesel is the best option for you. There is a significant premium for it. What's your annual mileage.

about 15000 thaTS why i was going 4 diesel

Hmmm, what about a Bora? Its a shame you've ruled out the Passat,

The Bora is a fantastic used car buy in this country. I take it you want to stay with VAG? Well, if considering a saloon the Bora is much better value than the equivalent Golf or Passat 2nd hand.

The Saab 93 and 95 you will find surprising cheap also.

As Tom said, Superbs are worth a look, but the Bora will be the better (sportier) drive.

What about a non-VRS?

SRI I assume?

It's really not a bad car at all. I've come close to buying one more than once over the last few years. I've had a couple of Vauxhalls and the GF has one now and we've found them very reliable. We have a good local dealer which helps.

My mate looked at one too but we both wanted to try something different hence me with a vRS and him with a Mazda 6. Mazda would have been a good bet for you too but you'll be happy with the Vectra.

yea its the sri model. friends of mine his family only buy vauxhals.. as part of the deal all the aloys are bein refurbed as a couple of scratches on them :) so it will look like new

Nice motor, things like this (medium and large ford/vaux/renault etc cars) are always a great buy after the first year or so.

Vectras arent bad cars, I've had the 3.0TD Elite for a weekend and it was fine. The satnav screen was a bit small though.

Edit: at the end of the day its a one year old car, looking at VAG cars I posted above they were all 3 or 4 years old. Good deal.

Drove past a VXR on the motorway today, dont see many of them about and it looked pretty mean. Looked like a company car too, dont fancy the blokes income tax bill though ;)
